He was a flash in the pan, he was really good for 2 years or so when he first came into the league, he was really athletic and had a strong arm. But he wasn't very versatile, the league caught up to his tendencies and he couldn't adjust. No shame in that, it happens all the time in pro sports. That's what the "sophomore slump" is, when 2nd year players aren't nearly as good as their rookie season, it's because the league has studied them and figured out their strategies, that's when you have to adapt and survive or stay the same and fade into obscurity, and some players just can't adapt, it's really hard to abandon the things that got you through school and semi-pro or minors or whatever it was before you went pro and diversify your techniques. But he found a new cash cow, the race grift. There's definitely shame in that, but at the same time I can't put all the blame on him, the people who created that market are really to blame. He's just capitalizing on it.
