One of my coworkers is excited about potential lockdowns, because he got laid off from his last job in the first round of lockdowns and made twice as much as his salary from unemployment.

Some people liked it. They were making more off unemployment than at their jobs, plus they got to pretend to be morally superior to everyone else.

No. That's the point. They're counting heads. (X) amount of people blindly did what they were told the first time, this time it will be less than that, and they'll have a more accurate estimate of who their army is.

Powerful people want to remain in power. In other news, Charlie Sheen is a drunk.

@TheGreenKnight500 but it's not all bad. At least you know who these people are now. Covid didn't make them like this, they've always been like this. Covid just exposed it. It's never been easier in our civilisations history to know what people you shouldn't trust.

@TheGreenKnight500 hate is the point. Their entire life is hate. It's just generally not socially acceptable to act like an absolute gremlin towards complete strangers for no reason. But nonsensical mandates open that flood gate and encourage that type of behavior. They don't actually give a shit about getting sick, they just want to scream at you and act like a mental patient without the social stigma normally attached.

Well it got half the country to live in constant fear and turn into snarling monsters, attacking everyone that isn't in their cult. So yes, it was very effective. It just didn't have the intended purpose they told us it did.

@farallimacha I'm not the czar of the unemployment office, I don't know how everything works. That's just what I heard, from him and numerous other people. There's data to back this up too, a lot of people made out like bandits in the first lockdowns. Mostly just the Uber wealthy, but a lot of other people scattered around the wealth ladder got shuffled around too. That's what this is, it's a redistribution of wealth. It's a free trial run to communism. The problem is these things are always a lot harder to cancel than they were to sign up for.

@scrappydoo7887 because the government is corrupt, and it rewards people who work less at the expense of people who work more.

@gabrielboorom2683 well, they're more formidable than they would be on an even playing field, because they have the financial and legal backing of every powerful institution in the world. They firebomb buildings and attack innocent people, and walk free the next day, we get locked up for years without charge or trial just for being at the wrong place.
