No shit, and they can be artists right now if they're actually good enough at art that someone wants to buy it. Which is one of the most abstract and subjective industries in existence. So by "oppression" what they really mean is "I suck at art, but I want to live in a society where people are forced to pay me for doing sucky art."

@anonony9081 most of the elements of capitalism that people see as "evil" or "unfair" aren't actually capitalism at all, it's usually government interference in the market that fucks everything up. Which is the literal opposite of capitalism. I'm not saying pure capitalism, with no government interference whatsoever would be the perfect system, there's certainly problems that would come along with that, but so far no government has managed to find the right balance of regulating economies without fucking it up. It's almost like governments are all either stupid or corrupt.

Yep, and they're not old enough to have seen firsthand what it does. As recently as the 90s in the US in particular, there was a nearly unanimous consensus that communism is horrible, it's not to even be given a seat at the table as a serious political or economic ideal.

@yurichtube1162 capitalism has literally reduced hunger and starvation, not only in capitalist nations but across the entire world. And this joker is acting like people are dying of starvation because of it. Fucking delusional. The closest I could find to an actual hard number on starvation in America was saying that the number is so low they don't even track it.

@Xbalanque84 and the primary reason corporations have so much power and influence is because of their unethical marriage with the government, corporate bailouts, companies that are "too big to fail". And I understand why that exists in principle, if a company is so big it employs millions of people, that's millions of people who would suffer if they went out of business. So that's how it was sold to the people initially, you can see where people would go along with it. But in a free market, when a door closes a window opens, if some mega chicken processing corporation goes out of business, it's because they were beaten, either by another mega corporation or a whole bunch of smaller companies. That means there's new jobs available for everyone who was laid off from the big corporation that failed. It's actually quite funny that it's the Democrats more so than Republicans who support this corporate fascism that's screwing over the working class.

Seriously, if there were any validity to communism at all, then someone would have at least come close enough to "perfecting" it to have had an at least moderately successful communist system.

@thetzarofthemountain8222 I hear ya, I work at a kennel, boarding dogs and dog training, all that kinda stuff. It's hardly manual labor like you do, but I actually genuinely enjoy it, I have plenty to do on my days off but I have no interest in taking a vacation or any extended time off, I would get bored, and it's not just paychecks for me, I really like the feeling of providing a service, even if it's not something as essential as food or housing. I'm still doing something productive that people really want.

@HenshinFanatic oh don't get me started on modern art, given my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt since I've never really been into that shit at any point in my life, so it's far from my area of expertise, but everything even art adjacent these days has become such a shell, it's more about "art culture" than the actual art itself, and nobody actually likes that shit, it's an entire subculture of people who all pretend like they like things that suck, because it's "the thing", and they're all just virtue signaling to other people in their tribe. It's actually pretty damn hilarious.

@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle those are pretty misleading numbers too, because the "capitalism starvation" is based off of the total deaths globally, which mostly occur in jacked up 3rd world countries, many of which have socialist governments, and the death attributed to communism are only counting communist countries. The numbers of starvation in developed nations that are considered capitalist are so negligible that it's not even tracked, I would have to guess that the overwhelming majority of people who die of starvation in the US and Europe were either stranded in the wilderness or some shit like that, or have some kind of disease that prevents them from retaining proper nutrition. There's pretty much nobody who dies of starvation because they just can't afford food, that's not a thing, there are fat homeless people in the US. You can just stand on a street corner for an hour and get enough money to buy a double cheeseburger from McDonald's, and there's almost assuredly one within walking distance.

@thetzarofthemountain8222 you really touched on the most important aspect of all this, what all the leftists really lack is a purpose. They think they're angry and depressed because they don't have any money, they live in this delusion where if the government would just take care of all their base needs, all their life's problems would be solved, but no amount of money or free handouts will ever make them happy, what they really need is a purpose. And for a lot of people that's work, it's the most common thing people use to contribute and get that feeling of accomplishment, but it doesn't have to be work, there are plenty of other hobbies and other things people can feel a sense of purpose from. That's probably where all the protests and activism comes from, on a subconscious level they know they need a purpose, they just can't properly channel it because they're not consciously aware of it, and it's a hollow gesture because none of them really understand what the fuck they're protesting for. None of it makes any sense, it's so self conflicting and hypocritical, they're just being weaponized by their handler's.

Random Platypus with Internet exactly, but you can kinda see where the grift comes from, they tug at your heartstrings by saying "think of all the people who would be unemployed if this giant mega corporation goes under!!!", and for people who only look at the surface, this is a convincing argument. I think another reasonable solution would be massive reform on welfare, if we could stop paying lazy jackasses who don't want to work and reserve unemployment and disability payments for people who really need it, there would be more than enough money to take care of people who get laid off from big companies going under. At least for a few weeks, that should be long enough to get in with someone else.

@ChrisWilliams-lf8ex I don't know about all that, a corporation is essentially just a really big business. It's reasonable to think that would happen in a completely untethered market too, but not to the extent and not in the same way it artificially exists today.

Random Platypus with Internet that's why every kid should play a competitive sport at some point, it doesn't matter how good you think you are, you're going to win some and lose some no matter what. It conditions you to appreciate actually earning a win, and deal with a loss in a constructive way. All these young commies were obviously lacking all of that growing up, and I'm sure some of them did play sports, but they clearly didn't get the message of what it's all about.

And that's actually kind of true, unlike when socialists and communists make the same claims. Nearly everything the left complains about with capitalism is actually overregulation causing the problems, which is the literal opposite of capitalism.
