I wouldn't say that liberalism makes the assumption that all people are the same, I've always interpreted it more like people should be treated the same under the law, knowing that we're not the same, and will not make the same decisions. That's why people should be defined by the choices they make, not their identity. So in that vain, I suppose it would be accurate to say liberalism doesn't care about diversity, but not because it says diversity doesn't exist, because it's not as relevant as merit.

  3.  @AlexiusRedwood  equal under the law would mean equal under the laws of the nation they're in. Someone who isn't legally in that nation wouldn't be subject to the same laws, in theory they shouldn't even be there in the first place. That's why believing in open borders, or at least not really giving a shit about immigration is antithetical to liberal philosophy.

  6.  @jordanthompson8268  liberals are moderate left, much like conservatives, who are moderate right. The two have a lot in common and a lot of overlap. You can't be a socialist and a liberal at the same time, liberals believe in some social policies and higher spending than conservatives, but they're not socialists. Those are 2 completely different things.

They say they believe in freedom, because it sounds good, but when you press them on individual issues they really only care about freedom as far as being able to do whatever they want. They don't care about your freedom, or anyone else's. It's hard to really call them liberal, or socialist, or anything really. They don't have a coherent political view.
