@notsoberoveranalyzer8264 yes, luck is definitely a factor, to varying degrees depending on the circumstances. To use the restaurant example, since it's something I have personal experience with, and I feel like you probably do too, you can do everything the right way and go absolutely nowhere. And sometimes you luck out. It has more to do with the higher up positions than anything to do with you, most of the time the store managers and assistant managers are there to stay. The company has invested so much into them to put them in that position, in most cases they either have to fuck something up monumentally, or just decide to leave for personal reasons. Otherwise they're there for all eternity. And a lot of people will just sit in that job and do nothing for all eternity. So if you work at a fast food restaurant that has an established store manager, you're basically screwed, shift leader is about as far as you're gonna go. But maybe you luck out and you work at one with a store manager that leaves, and you take the job. But you've got to establish yourself as a solid shift leader to even be in the running for that, that's the part that isn't luck, that's within your control.
