Left means more government intervention in business, that's quite literally the opposite of libertarian.

Everyone is a libertarian when it comes to what they want to do, the only meaningful way to tell where someone lies on the libertarian/authoritarian axis is what they think about other people doing things they don't like.

It's not about what a libertarian views as immoral, it's about them not wanting you or anyone else to tell them what's immoral, in the legal sense. A libertarian can have any moral framework they want, the law isn't supposed to legislate morality, it's supposed to limit harm. Murder isn't illegal because it's immoral, it's illegal because it causes harm. And those 2 things often do intersect, but that's kind of the whole point, if you consider something I do to be immoral, but it doesn't hurt anyone, tough shit, you can just choose not to do whatever that thing is and leave me be.

@wille517 the constitution was the most libertarian piece of legislature ever written at it's time, which was only a few minutes ago on the scale of government as a whole. The US has since strayed far, far, far more into authoritarianism since then, our original government didn't even receive a paycheck, they were volunteers who lost money when they met for legislative purposes. To call it fascist is like calling Will Smith a pacifist. When it comes to slapping comedians, that's absurd, he's definitely a pacifist when it comes to his wife smoking poles other than his.

@joeblow1942 non aggressive doesn't have to mean anarchy, it can just mean non aggressive up to the point of preventing predation.

@decepticonxhunter4850 some people have open marriages. I think it's gross and creepy, and in most cases it probably does cause harm, even if they have an agreement. But it's not for me to decide. We have to be able to accept a certain level of harm, eating unhealthy foods causes harm too, not even just to the person who eats it, if a dad decides to be a big fat fatass and eat 5 Big Macs a day, that will eventually hurt his family if he dies of a heart attack at 45. But you have to eat, so we don't make being a big fat fatass illegal. But, murder is by any reasonable measure, very well across the line of acceptable harm. There has to be discretion in these kind of things, that's what the law is for. And that's why libertarian and anarchist are 2 different things.

@DaedalusHelios yep. And I agree with him in most of his principles, even as an atheist, I definitely think society should take a more Christian approach to morality. But I don't think this is exclusive to Christianity, and I don't agree with a lot of the tactics he advocates for. That being said, I'm 100% behind a lot of what The Daily Wire is doing, I think conservatives need to fight back and try to shift culture, and show through their own ideals that their ideals are good. We can make real change this way. It's hard, and it requires collective effort. And this is very dangerous, because collectivism almost always ends in atrocities, but the left is already doing that, and we're already definitely going down a road that ends in atrocities. We have to flirt with theocratic fascism or our society will collapse, that's it, those are the only options. It sucks, I hate it, it probably ends in collapse either way, but using theocratic ideals to counter communist ideals is the only option left available, it's either that or just bend over and take the communist stick.

@Plainview-tu7xn but if one of your abusive parents is trying to kill the other, and presumably you next, and you have no reason to believe they won't kill you, you have no choice but to align with the abusive parent that's not actively trying to kill you, just for the sake of self preservation, right now. You can formulate a plan to escape later. Going rogue and just running away will surely lead to your death. It's a difficult situation, and you will constantly question whether you did the right thing, but the problem is already so bad that you have to act now and survive, anything you could have done to prevent it getting this bad is irrelevant now, it's already that bad.

@Woo_Woo_Woman again, confusing libertarianism with anarchism. Libertarians don't want everyone to do whatever they want, they just want the government to sit down and shut up and be governed by the people. Government has as much power as the people give them, anarchy is a rejection of authority, libertarianism is an acknowledgement that authority is necessary in some form, but that more authority should be given to communities to govern themselves than to some suit hundreds of miles away that doesn't give a shit about you or how the money you pay them impacts your life in any meaningful way.

@crobeastness libertarian left is complete nonsense, unless they're just talking about a theoretical like some kind of hippie commune. But that can only exist on a very small scale. If that's someone's position on how the government of a country of over 300mil people should be run, they're an idiot. Most people who claim to be libertarian left just want to do whatever they want with no repercussions, but they want tyranny for you.

There's no such thing as left libertarian, that's just something leftists say because they want to be able to do whatever they want, but liberty doesn't count unless you would extend the same freedoms you want to everyone else.

Same here, sorta, I can't call myself full libertarian, somewhere between conservative and libertarian. But closer to libertarian, and nowhere close to left. Left libertarian is nonsense, anyone who claims that is either lying or too stupid to understand their own views.

We could make due with sales tax and maybe a very small, flat tax. Our current tax system is complete nonsense, I don't call myself a big L Libertarian because I'm not against all taxes, but I'm definitely further to the libertarian side on that than most conservatives. The government sucks, we don't need federal funding for the vast majority of things we use it for. I believe in public services like first responders, and some sort of public schooling (although our current system of both is completely broken, irrefutably), I think everyone should be entitled to basic education and policing and first aid, those kind of things. I don't like the idea of someone's house burning down because they can't afford a firefighter, or a kid not getting an education because their parents are useless drunks. But those things are a small percentage of what our taxes actually go to.
