I don't think there ever was a time where democrats genuinely loved America and wanted what's best, it's just that for the majority of American history you couldn't win elections by shitting on your own country and calling everyone who disagrees with you racist. Now that a considerable portion of the populous has had their brain turned into mashed potatoes by media and school indoctrination, they can be more outright about what they really believe.
