"Even back then" implies that it's unusual, like it's not normal that he thought they were attractive. I know that's a reach, and making an implication, but it's music, there are definitely hidden implications.

A lot of musical groups sing about depression and stuff like that, and most of them don't ever act on it. I think people can be forgiven for not raising any red flags to something that usually isn't a red flag. It's not like the fans knew him personally.

 @assassin8636 it's pretty bad. Not all of it, but basically everything that's commercially successful is terrible. Today's music has no voice, it's all the same shit.
