@joebidensdentures4541 "I used to be a hopeless addict, but once it was a hell of a lot easier to get drugs, everything got better!" said absolutely nobody.

I agree with that in principle, but if you really think about it, doing drugs is already pretty much legal. Nobody really gets arrested just for doing drugs, it's not like cops are busting doors in rounding people up for smoking crack at home with their homies, minding their own business. People are almost always doing something else illegal, or at the very least, stupid, and they also have drugs.

At the very least, it's a forced sobriety to some degree. I know people make toilet hooch and other shit, and they can get stuff smuggled in, but it's certainly a lot more difficult to use any substances on the regular than it is on the outside.

I understand the sentiment to some degree, I mean, if you accept the paradigm that you can either have a bunch of crack and meth addicts, or you can have crack and meth addicts that also have hepatitis, you can see how some people would say that we should just try to limit the secondary dangers as much as we can, and make drug use safer. But I do not accept that paradigm, I think we need to work to limit both, and focusing only on the secondary dangers will only increase the primary dangers.

@lmorgan2lm addiction is a complicated issue, there's no one size fits all solution, and there is no solution that will make it completely go away. At least nothing within the current realm of possibility. But leftists aren't smart enough to understand that, they're only capable of thinking in absolutes and extremes, and they're not capable of having an honest conversation and listening to someone else's ideas. So anything they have to say about addiction, or any other complicated issue can and should be dismissed off hand, they could never even accidentally have a good idea. The more they shut up and get out of the way, the better society will be for everyone, including them.
