It really can't be said enough, fascists and communists don't hate each other because they're so different, they hate each other because they're so similar, and both require total dominance of culture and power.

@nicholaspape6865 I have a theory that I can fly. Of course I can't, every time I jump off a roof I just plop on the ground and it hurts a lot. But my theory still stands. I'll get it right next time. Probably.

I think "left" and "right" is a bit of an overly reductive view of the political paradigm. It's useful as a visualization, but that's about all.

johnnyjohn-johnson7738 I've always said that the rights and freedoms you want to extend to everyone are a better indicator of how liberal you are than the rights and freedoms you want for yourself. A lot of people call themselves liberal, but they don't want liberty for you, they just want to be able to do whatever they want without any negative consequences.

It's like how all the covid crazies openly advocated for tyrannical policies, but simultaneously claimed it's actually not tyranny, because it's a good thing, and they like the good things, and you like the bad things.

@soulknife20 I like the triangular layout of the political spectrum more, it has liberalism, communism, and fascism at the respective corners. It gives a better understanding of the relationship and difference of the 3 main views, liberalism valuing freedom, communism valuing equality, and fascism valuing order. Obviously everyone values all of those things, to varying degrees, that's why everyone is going to land on a different point between all 3.

@soulknife20 I do still think the traditional political compass with the 4 quadrants has value too, I think to get a better understanding of it all, you should be familiar with both models. It's really pretty much impossible to come up with an objective, quantifiable model for people's political believes, especially considering they're not static, people change. But if you look at both models, you can get a better idea of the 2 combined.

Socialists tend to lie about what they genuinely believe, depending on the audience. They'll often pretend to be liberal when they're in a more moderate setting, to hide how far left they actually are. That's where a lot of the confusion comes from. It's also why they think everyone right of center is a secret fascist, they're projecting. They think because they lie about how extreme their views are, everyone else must be lying too, and they're on the opposite extreme.

 @christophe9602 sorta, yes, I guess. Communists want to destroy everything that isn't communist. That includes the good and wholesome, but it also includes other evil ideologies, like fascism.

@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623 there are differences, most importantly, fascism and Nazism focus on a return to tradition, they manipulate their followers by promising to bring back all of the things that once made the nation great. Communists take the opposite approach, they hyper focus on progress, they manipulate their followers by convincing them all the "olds" are actually bad and evil, and they have the knowledge to break through to a new modern age. The irony though, is on a long enough timeline, if successful, a communist becomes a fascist. Because if you achieve your progressive future, and maintain that, then eventually it becomes tradition, and without changing any views, yesterday's communist becomes today's fascist.

@juliancate7089 at the risk of being captain pedantry, I think an important distinction is that there's no good evidence, and no sound logic. They think they have evidence, they think it's based on logic, otherwise they wouldn't believe it. But their evidence is shaky to say the least, and their logic is even more shaky.

@juliancate7089 I see what you're saying, but if we were to focus just on Christianity, for the sake of expedience, Christians will cite "truths" from the bible, like how some of it actually is historically and/or geographically accurate. Not all of it, not even most of it, but they'll say "a-ha! The bible says this battle happened in this region, and this is supported in other secular works and archeological evidence!" Obviously this is not evidence of the divine, it's just evidence that it's a book that was written by people who observed their world. But in the Christian mind, this validates it's accuracy, therefore God. Again, I didn't say it was good evidence, but to believers, it is good evidence.
