I'm in a sort of minority, an atheist conservative, sort of, I'm somewhere between conservative and libertarian, but I'm definitely an atheist and I'm definitely not on the left. It's very bizarre to see the overwhelming majority of atheists replace traditional religion with a creepy, cult like attachment to politics. It really makes no sense, "I believe in science, I'm too smart to believe in fairy tales like those dumb Christians, but also, men can be women and socialism will definitely work this time."

Socialists are socialist because they don't understand socialism. The rest of us aren't socialist, because we do understand socialism.

@chico9805 the US wasn't founded as a Christian state, it was founded as a free state, with freedom of religion, based on Christian principles. The entire reason we came here was to escape the oppression of religious tyranny.

@the_mowron well I consider myself "culturally Christian" if the term makes sense, all of the stuff about just not being a dick and treating people right, love your family, be respectful and all that, sure, I'm all aboard. I just don't believe all the supernatural stuff. So I can't call myself a Christian, because that wouldn't be true. I still have far more in common with most Christian conservatives than leftist atheists.

@NicoSmedley well social programs are socialist in nature, it's just that when we refer to an economy as a whole as "socialist" or "capitalist", there is nuance, every economy is mixed on a wide scale. What would be considered socialist is usually an extreme tendency towards socialist policies, but they still have to have some form of capitalism to even exist. And there really aren't any current economies that could be considered on the extreme of capitalistic, that would be an extremely low tax, at a flat rate, and very minimal government interference in the market. I'm pretty sure no such economy exists in the world right now, if it does, please tell me, I'll start packing my bags.

@soulknife20 truckers get paid well though, better than a "living wage" to use your intentionally manipulated language. You don't get to complain about people not making enough money because of some governing force making them poor, and then poo-poo the idea of being a trucker because it's hard. Yea no shit, that's why it pays well. If you want to get paid well, you have to do some things that suck. It's called being an adult.

@yuvi3738 it has to be centralized on any kind of significant scale. "Everyone pays their fair share" only works if there's some kind of centralized agreement on what "fair share" means, and if there's some centralized authority in place to make sure people are paying.

Atheism is by definition the absence of religion, or a belief in God. If someone is an atheist, and has a cult attachment to a political ideology, then they're not an atheist, they're a cult member.

@TheImperatorKnight true, and there's also a lot of grey area between the completely insane far lefties, and the "liberal by default" types that just haven't really given a whole lot of thought to religion or politics.

I know from previous experience that Soulknife is a lying sack of shit that lies and then lies to cover up their lies, lies some more before they lie again and then to top it off they lie. Pretty good chance Owlette is just a sock puppet account they use to make it seem like more people agree with him. He does that too.

@BelleDividends different definitions exist because socialists are liars, what they tell you socialism is and what socialism actually is are not the same thing. That's why the "real socialism hasn't been tried" meme exists, because every time it does exactly what it's intended to do, destroy everything in sight, the socialists have to justify that, so they just come up with a make believe definition of what they think it's supposed to be, to make it seem like what it actually does is just a mistake.

@werrkowalski2985 but what grounds does a communist have for condemning Nazis? I get that they don't agree with each other on everything, that's why they're different ideologies, but neither group really did anything horrifyingly worse than the other. They both tyrannized and murdered groups who didn't go along with their ideology, they both brought the world to the brink of political destruction. For a communist to "condemn" a Nazi would be like a crack addict condemning meth addicts.
