@kingofamon2217 if what you consider to be left is such a tiny portion of the population, then that's not what "left" means within that population.

Slippery slope is only a fallacy if you can point to where you think the trend will stop, and give a logical explanation for why it will likely stop there.

@emilsinclair4190 you do understand that your example actually adds more in favor of my point, not against it, don't you?
3
@emilsinclair4190 because the argument that would be made that necessitates the example you gave would be if I said "nobody should ever lay a hand on anyone else, because that would escalate to violent attacks". That would be a fallacious slippery slope argument, because that line would be drawn in court, and as you stated, there's an obvious difference between playfully punching a friend and violently attacking someone, even in instances that are closer to the nebulous area in between, we have a legal process that they can go through. So no, we do not need to ban playfully punching friends because it can escalate to violent attacks, because it's already illegal to violently attack someone. There's where the slippery slope stops, when the victim presses charges on the attacker and it's brought through the already existing legal system.

Well his banning and the subsequent boost of preferred talking points and banning and censorship of dissenting views had a profound impact on the election. So yes, it does matter.

@EkkieEkk sure you can, and other people can ignore you or call you an idiot.

I've seen estimates that something like 85% of public school teachers are left leaning, and that there's an even greater percentage that consider themselves radical left than the total number of right leaning teachers.

It's almost like people should be left alone to have their own agency to decide what they think is true, and any attempt to gatekeep "truth" will inevitably result in the opposite of what it claims to be moving towards.

@daraghokane4236 you've never even accidentally said anything salient, have you?

@NPC_Reselling MLK didn't just randomly get assassinated one day, it was the result of a process of demonization and discrediting, and back then the feds were able to do a lot more things in the shadows that basically nobody knew about. Now it's happening in broad daylight, and people are actually supporting it just because they don't like the people being targeted. Such a short sighted, unprincipled way of viewing the world. If they can character assassinate people you hate, they can do it to people you like. And if they can character assassinate them with public support, then they can actually assassinate them too.

I think that's part of the problem, but it's also just that people are unprincipled. A lot of the people who have been cheering for tech censorship know it will likely be disastrous in the future, but they don't give a shit, because they think their team will be in power by that point and they can just wield that sword against all their enemies.

@jonsmith9838 "sometimes the firing squad accidentally shoots themselves in the foot, so it's totally fine when they shoot everyone else!" -some internet dummy trying to justify big tech fascism.
