@brothersandsistersofvalhalla a tornado is a natural disaster, it can't be avoided. Student debt is a loan that you willfully took on, under the assumption that a college degree would help you to have a career that pays off that debt relatively easily. It's nobody's fault but your own if you can't meet that requirement.

The middle class is who would have to pay off debts for predominantly upper middle class kids who made a stupid decision and invested poorly in their future.

@matthewfusaro2590 good for him, I don't really care if he has a degree or not, I have a problem with people who ask for free handouts. I work at a kennel doing low skilled labor, I don't make shit but I get by and I don't want a dime from anyone that has more than me, nor do I think I owe a dime to anyone who has less than me. I have a high school education with some college, didn't really pan out because I was more interested in partying and chasing women, so there's that. And you can be a smug elitist and look down on me if you want, but I really don't give a shit, I do fine in my life, and if you have a degree and still think you're owed something, I think the problem is you, little fella.

@matthewfusaro2590 the pandemic has been the best possible time to pay off debts, if you can't figure out how to at least start making a dent in your loans now, you're never going to. And daddy government isn't going to help you, democrats are just dangling a shiny object in front of young and ignorant voters just to get votes and rope in the far left, it couldn't possibly be more clear what they're doing. They're laughing at you, because they know you're too stupid to know any better, and they're going to do the same thing next election cycle, and you're going to vote the same way, and they're going to laugh at you again.

@KG9551 well someone else didn't do it to you. I think we should definitely take a critical look at how predatory student loans can be, and I would actually be in favor of some kind of federal intervention in what kind of interest rates they can apply and how these things are gone about. But I don't think we can or should just wave a magic wand and say you don't actually owe money that you owe. That's not the answer. That's just what irresponsible leftists want.

@Rae Tavia it's not me making the decision, it's the fact that you paid a shitload of money for college and you still can't figure out how to get a job good enough to pay for college that makes that decision. That's a poor investment, by any reasonable measure.

Even though actual statistics show that more than half of self identifying leftists live with their parents and either have no job or a low paying job. The majority of you are broke losers with no direction in life. Yet every one of you on the internet talks a tall game about how successful they are. And of course I can't possibly know whether or not you're telling the truth. But considering the statistics, and the fact that all leftists are dishonest, by definition, there's absolutely zero logical reason to believe you. You're just another freeloader like all the rest. And BTW, stolen valor is a pretty fucked up thing to do. I know you don't care about morality. But I wouldn't get in the habit of popping off about that in the real world. Because real veterans aren't typically too forgiving towards people who lie about serving.

You think some high school kid working a part time job at McDonald's wants to have to worry about an ice cream machine coming out of his paycheck it it breaks? That's why wage labor exists. Most people don't want that headache and responsibility, they would rather just work at an established company where someone else takes all that risk on.

@paulp5219 but their wage remains the same. That's what wage is, it's a consistent rate of pay regardless of the exterior factors that business owners have to worry about. Employees hours may get cut if business slows, but it would have to slow considerably for it to really have that great of an impact on hours worked by the staff.

@paulp5219 maybe, as an indirect result, but not necessarily. The day to day business of an establishment doesn't effect wage workers income as much as it does owners, at the end of the pay period your check is going to rely almost completely on how many hours you worked, for the owner or owners, their pay relies directly on the business.

@paulp5219 aside from all that, you're suggesting that people who can't even figure out a way to make their labor valuable enough to get full time hours at low skilled jobs that are constantly in need for labor should have the responsibility of being a part owner. That's business suicide.
