@terryknight6817 if a private gun owner sells to another owner, and the buyer isn't legally authorized to own a gun, then the buyer and seller can both be held liable. So private sellers don't HAVE to do background checks by law, but they usually do just to cover their own ass.

Yea we'll see how well this works. My guess is not well at all, and liberal cities like Chicago continue to be warzones.

@@RenaissanceUnfair just because it's not required by law doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Private sellers are taking on the responsibility of potential charges if they don't check their buyers.

@Metamace it's a generalization that's 100% accurate. The left in general doesn't know anything about their positions, that's why they're on the left. Because they're ignorant, and too arrogant to ever learn anything.

@finnameme8108 this is the so called "gun show loophole" stupid people always mouth fart about, basically legally licensed stores have to do background checks, private sellers do not. But if you sell to a felon or anyone else that's not legally allowed to own or possess a gun, you can be charged along with them. So it's in the best interest of private sellers to do background checks, and they usually do. This person is either ignorant or being dishonest, probably both. They're assuming because it's not legally required to do a background check, that it never happens, which is completely false.

@FischerNilsA psychos and violent criminals are always going to get guns, there is nothing you can do to stop them. People can make guns from homemade parts. The only reasonable thing to do is allow decent people to defend themselves against psychos and violent criminals.

@Greendalewitch that's the dumbest and most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, there are countless reasons people should have the right to have a gun, but the only argument you need is that self defense is an inherent human right that cannot be granted, only taken away. It's the anti gun people who don't have any good arguments. Criminals don't care about laws. That's what makes them criminals. There are no gun laws you can make that prevent criminals from getting guns. The only argument you really have is "I think only criminals and police should have guns". And that's definitely not a good argument.
