Yea that's pretty much what conservatives have been saying all along, you can call yourself whatever you want, but you don't get to demand that other people call you that. And it doesn't mean someone is a bigot because they don't think you're a coffee table just because you say you're a coffee table.

@NoFreedoms-f1d some of us were saying this 10 years ago. It was all fun and games when it was just dumb SJWs with bad takes about identity politics, but some of us were saying it's going to go way too far, because the left never stops at a reasonable position, numerous genocidal regimes throughout history should have taught us that by now.

Why don't we just do that thing conservatives have been suggesting for decades, where we just don't really care about people's race or other superficial identifiers? That's a cool idea. Ya know, racism is bad, and all that?

How does that work out with the race based legislation that the left wants to pass though? Say you want diversity quotas in hiring, a white person can just say ok, I identify as black. Can I have that job that I'm already qualified for now? You have to pick a lane. You can't have race based policies and say anyone can be anything they say they are. There are obviously conflicts with those positions.

@tobysmith2081 that's nonsense, we've all known or known about people who grew up in an area that's predominantly a different ethnicity than them. It's completely delusional to think people don't know about other ethnicities unless they are that ethnicity. "Identifying" as Asian is no less bat shit than identifying as another gender. And you know it. This is pure cope, because it's hilariously pointing out how utterly insane the leftist worldview is.
