  3. I think steel manning is a useful tool just for yourself, to try and get a better perspective of what people who disagree with you think. Reverse engineer it from the most charitable interpretation possible, and work your way back more towards your position. That's only if you genuinely care about knowing what the other position really thinks, honestly. A lot of people don't care about that at all, they just want confirmation bias.

And whether the US should be involved in the ME in the first place is a completely different argument, that doesn't change the fact that radical Islamists like Bin Laden hate our culture and want to destroy it.   9. I was thinking the same thing, he's bending over backwards to say nobody is supporting Bin Laden, and he would bend over just as hard to point to a conservative supporting Hitler. Even though we've seen far leftists unironically applaud Hitler in the last few weeks.
