  1. He probably just didn't really think about what it means, and just thought it was a common pleasantry that English people say. Like when people say "I could care less". They're just saying something they've heard and not really thinking about what it means. He is a democrat after all, people on the left side of politics don't have full brain function, most of them barely have any brain function at all.
