So now leftists have a problem with teaching kids that slaves were resilient, and overcame adversity. That makes sense, since the entire point of leftism is to discourage people from achieving anything, and make them slaves to socialism.

@Dragno666 the point is teaching kids that positive things can come from negative situations is not an endorsement of said negative thing. It's a positive message about perseverance. That's why the left is bending over backwards to turn this into "look at the republicans defending slavery", when it's very clearly not the case at all. @LittleIguana BUT, just to play devil's advocate, if someone told me Cuties was awful, and offensive, and absolute trash, but there was one good performance, or the cinematography was done well, or any other kind of positive remark not dealing with the subject matter, I wouldn't accuse them of defending the movie. Because that would be dishonest. They very clearly said that they did not like the movie, they just added in an objective point about something that wasn't awful about it. Because I'm not a dishonest piece of shit like you, and I actually listen to what people are saying, instead of just forming my own interpretation and throwing around accusations based on my interpretation.

@meghnac78 a lot of freed slaves did quite well, and a lot of their descendants did well too. That doesn't mean slavery was right in any way, but some people are strong enough to move past the atrocities of the past, and some people are weak. They're called leftists.

@iamonhere hard work and morality, to put it as simply as possible. There's obviously external factors too, not everyone starts life in the same place. But there are people who start at the bottom and rise to the top, and people who start at the top and fall to the bottom. So clearly there is an element to your own choices.

@og666 I'm not focusing on the benefits of slavery, you are. Slavery was bad. Everyone agrees with that. There was one part of a textbook that stated the objective facts about how some of the freed slaves used skills they learned to better their lives after abolition, and the entire left side of politics is losing their minds. And completely ignoring the fact that this part of the textbook was written by a black man.

Slaves did learn skills while they were kept in bondage, this is objectively true. Any prescription about this being "good" or "bad" is your subjective opinion.
