Horse shit, weed doesn't help that much with pain. Most of the studies only provide a loose correlation to a significant benefit. I'm not anti weed, but the medicinal benefits are massively overblown by advocates, and it actually actively hurts the case for legalizing weed, because you're not being honest. If you want to win people over just tell them you like to get high because you like to get high, and present the data showing it doesn't pose any significant health risk compared to other illicit substances.

@tomcruisenukedmyaccount5388 well it would have to be regulated just like alcohol. It's not like teenagers don't already get their hands on weed anyway, and I know that's a sort of "people will do it anyway, so just make it legal" fallacy, but I would have to guess more teenagers smoke weed regularly than drink regularly. Based on that logic, underage use might actually go down if it's legalized and regulated.

@jgg6932 well I think there's something to be said for encouraging a less self destructive lifestyle. If you want to call that a little less freedom, sure, I'll give you that. But I don't want harsh punishments for things like that, just deterrents. Weed is already barely illegal, most cops don't give a shit about weed unless there's something else going on that's less harmless.

@tomcruisenukedmyaccount5388 yea I can agree with that, I don't want anyone locked up just for weed, that's dumb. But that's already hardly even a thing, most of the people serving time for weed originally had more serious charges but took a plea deal so just the weed is on their record.

I really don't give a shit. And I'm not even saying it doesn't help. I'm just saying people like you do more harm than good for the push to legalize, because you're not honest about the medicinal benefits.

Everyone has limits to freedom, otherwise we would just turn the "freedom dial" up to 11 and keep it there, no need to ever debate about politics again.
