It's hilarious how all of the people arguing to cancel student debt have such a pretentious attitude about it, like everyone who disagrees with them is stupid. And you're the ones who have a degree from a university and can't figure out how to make money with it.

"No such thing as a free lunch" is an economic principle, it means everything costs something, even if you don't have to pay for it, even if it doesn't even cost money, it still costs something to someone, whether it's time, effort, money or any number of other things. And I highly doubt that she's against providing food for students in public schools, if that's what you're getting at, pretty much every single person on every side of politics agrees that a base level education and amenities for kids while they're at school is not only a necessary, but a good way for the state to spend tax money.

@aaronhumphrey3514 as soon as you pull out the "empathy" card, you're saying loud and proud that you don't actually have an argument. Yes, it sucks when you make a bad decision and have to deal with the consequences. I've made plenty. But I've never demanded that some stranger across the country should have to bail me out of my bad decisions. I dealt with them, like an adult. You should try it some time.

It's hard to honestly and coherently argue that someone who has the opportunity to go to an American university has been completely shafted in life, and never had a "fighting chance". I would say that's a pretty damn good leg up on the majority of the world. It's not someone else's fault if they can't make something of that opportunity. And no amount of money in the world will fix their poor decision making, they'll just piss that money away too just like they pissed their loan away.

Should people who spent tons of money on jewelry get a refund, at taxpayers expense? What about people with tattoos they regret? People who made dumb sports bets? See how your "logic" here is flawed?

@scifirealism5943 if anyone thinks that there are no systemic problems, then that person is by definition, an anarchist. How many anarchist do you know? Everyone recognizes that systemic problems exist, that's why government exists, to try and work out those kinks. Some people just think we have different systemic problems than you do. Do the best you can to actually understand the arguments against your position before you mouth fart about them. Might make it possible for you to actually have an honest argument instead of some emotionally charged, hyperbolic nonsense.

@scifirealism5943 you're probably just not listening to those people who you say think there are "no systemic problems", I think there are plenty of systemic problems in education, particularly for this discussion, higher education. I think too many teenagers have this idea put in their head that all they have to do is go to college and 4 years later, whammo, magic money in their pocket, it's that simple. So they get degrees in nonsense, and don't actually learn any real world skills, because the college doesn't care, they get paid either way. It's up to YOU to actually learn and take courses that will help your career. That's the systemic problem. And it won't be solved by just waving a magic wand and saying people don't have to pay back money that they willingly borrowed, that will just create an entirely new set of problems, and we still have the same systemic problem at the core, that people are getting degrees in nonsense and can't use them to get a job that pays well. And nobody on the left seems to want to confront that, if all you study is gender bullshit, and become radicalized in leftist activism, and you can't find a job, whose problem is that? It shouldn't be a mystery why so many people are left with a worthless piece of paper saying they graduated college and tens of thousands of dollars of debt, they did that to themselves.

Nobody is advocating for people to have debt because they do too, or because they're rich and they don't care, they're advocating for not forcing taxpayers to pay for someone else's poor decisions. Millions of other people's poor decisions. People have told you this and infinite number of times, but you just don't want to listen, you would rather live in your delusional fantasy where everyone who disagrees with you is just an evil ghoul. Which is the exact same mentality that caused all of the failures in your life in the first place, you don't want to understand why people think the way they do, you just want to stamp your foot and blame someone else for all your problems.
