Texas has an odd mix of traditional conservative Christians and more libertarian types in the Republican voter base. Between that and the big cities being increasingly more democrat leaning, I don't think Texas legalizing is as out of the question as a lot of people thought not long ago.

Bad ideas sound like bad ideas, and you would have more fun if they sounded like good ideas? Boom, fixed. But yea i get what you're saying, but at the same time weed already isn't that illegal, come on, how many people actually serve time just for having weed? That's not really a thing. It's almost always that they were doing something else illegal, and they had weed.

@whitewolf4096 it honestly seems like most people on all sides of politics are for legalization, or at the least decriminalization or just don't care that much. There's still some super traditional religious types that are hardcore against it, most of them are republican voters, but not all of them. It's not as much of a left/right issue as a lot of people seem to think.

Everyone has limitations on what freedom means, the freedom to openly harm other people infringes on their freedom, so it's not as simple as just turning the freedom dial up to 11. And I don't personally think that someone smoking a little weed harms anyone else, but that's the state of mind people who oppose legalization are in, substance abuse is a serious problem and can definitely negatively effect people other than the person abusing substances. I don't agree with people who oppose legalization, but I understand their position.

@jacobgarcia4188 I never said I was against legalization, I'm for it. I just favor states rights over federal, that's all, and weed is an issue that's contested enough that I don't think there should be a federal law legalizing it. That's all. I've made this very clear. You're stuck in the "with me or against me" dichotomy, just like all authoritarians.

@jacobgarcia4188 so cut federal taxes down to next to nothing, leave it at a state level. Have a problem with the way your taxes are being spent? Move to a new state. Problem solved.

@jacobgarcia4188 I'm not an absolutionist about anything pertaining to this, goddamnit how hard is it for you to understand this? I'm not saying there should be no federal laws at all, I've been as clear as humanly possible about that, I specifically stated in my last post that I think weed legalization should be state level because it's so hotly contested. Some things are not, murder bad, pretty much everyone agrees with that, so murder is illegal on a federal level. Moving on, not a contested issue. Weed, however, is a very contested issue. Regardless of what you think about it, and goddamn I even agree with you that it should be legal, I just disagree about federal vs state. It's really hard to tell if you're being dishonest on purpose and intentionally misrepresenting my statements, or if you're just dumb. But at least one of those things is definitely true.

@jacobgarcia4188 I don't think it should either, but there is an argument to be made for intoxicated people potentially harming others. I don't agree with that, when it comes to weed specifically, I think it's pretty silly to think so. About the worst thing that'll happen is you might get a little lazy and complacent, and smoking anything isn't great health wise. But that's about all. Either way though, I'm just trying to get you to understand the argument coming from the other side. You don't have to agree with it, but it's hard to really have a well thought out position on something without understanding why people disagree with you.

@elgatofelix8917 there's only 4 states where weed is completely illegal, I looked it up because this thread got me curious. Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, and South Carolina. The rest range from fully legal to CBD only.

@elgatofelix8917 they're absolutely clueless, about absolutely everything. Leftists acting like they know a thing about the political world would be as delusional as me talking to a group of ballet fanatics, despite the fact that I know nothing about ballet, and don't care about ballet. But pretending like everything I say is gospel and having a smug attitude about it.

I'm all for legalization, but I still think it should be left at a state level. If some people want to live in a state where it's still illegal, I don't have a problem with those states existing, and if there's not enough people of that opinion, then all states will eventually legalize it. It's just still too much of a contested issue for me to support sweeping federal legislation.

@bluehero-96 you know the far left is an extremely small faction, right? You all just cry on the internet the loudest and most frequently, so you appear to be a larger group than you actually are. Most American democrat voters are moderate lefty and just don't really pay much attention to politics. It's always been that way. But there are still frighteningly more far leftists than there should be for a functioning society. Even a small percentage of extremists can do severe damage to social cohesion, as you have been for the past 10 years or so.

@scoopy5739 I don't have a problem with weed, don't really care for it much myself. I just think it should be left at a state level, you have your opinion about it, I have mine, and other people have theirs, and people should have the right to move freely to a state that best represents their opinion on the issue if it's that important of an issue to them. And let's be real, it's not that illegal, it's not like feds are going to bust in your door because you're smoking a J. Almost all the time someone catches a weed charge, they were also doing something else illegal.

@jacobgarcia4188 that would be fine, if enough people supported legislation in a state to put that into law. There are a lot of dry counties where liquor sales are prohibited. I think it's stupid as hell, but that's why I don't live in those counties.

@user-rx2ur5el9p states were intended to essentially be their own country, but with free movement state to state for every citizen. Federal power is supposed to be weak, so that each state holds every other state accountable and American citizens all have the opportunity to live in a state that best suits their ideals.

@andriki88 I think they often get in their own way too, by making poor arguments. I see a lot of people acting like weed is some miracle drug that cures everything, and trying to take a medicinal approach that comes across more as just making excuses for wanting to get high all day. Pro legalization advocates need to be more honest, take the angle that it's largely harmless and has medicinal benefits, but also isn't really a cure for anything, it just helps with a lot of minor medical ailments. And that's fine, OTC painkillers don't cure anything either, but they're definitely useful and legitimate medicine. But if someone told you taking a couple of Advil a day would cure your epilepsy, you would probably think they're a little nutty.
