@happyangie674 it is pretty weird, it would be like calling myself a devout non football fan. Wtf does that even mean? If you don't like football you just don't like football. Unless I'm going around screeching at everyone about how they also shouldn't like football. See how weird that sounds now? It's even more weird than being one of those weirdos who wears a cheese hat and no shirt to a Packers game in the dead of winter.

@ThePoliticrat I don't think you understand what atheism is.

@EPaBeZ780 that's a circular argument, because if the universe can't exist without being created, then neither can God, the creator must have a creator, and that creator requires a creator, and so on and so on. And if God can just exist without being created, then so can the universe, and God isn't necessary. Either everything requires a creator or it doesn't. This is a concept humans just can't fully comprehend.

@Ro7770 I'm not making any affirmative claim one way or the other though, I'm saying I don't know. I have all sorts of ideas about what I think about the universe, and existence, and the meaning of life and all that fun stuff, but I don't make any affirmative claims about what I don't know and can't possibly know.

Thank God I never had an edgy boy atheist phase where I acted like I was smarter than everyone just bc I'm not religious. Maybe it's because I wasn't raised in an overly religious family, I started going to church with a friend when I was in middle school and did the Christian thing until I was about 18. So I try to put myself in the shoes of people who had more pushback when they left the church, I understand my experience was pretty mild in comparison, and I can understand where people might be angry for a while right after they leave the church. But it's still hard for me to excuse the pretentious and vile attitude I see from so many anti theists. I prefer the company of Christians honestly.

Isn't that kind of a dumb reason? I didn't turn into a Christian because of insane leftists. And you guys destroyed entire sections of cities for a full year while pretending like you have the moral high ground. That's more unhinged than anything I see from religious fanatics in the US.

There's this movie called The Anarchist Cookbook, about you guessed it, a group of anarchists, but they meet a new guy that's a nihilist and someone asks him what that means, he says "I don't believe in anything, not even nihilism".

A lot of atheists on the left are starting to worship leftism as a sort of religion replacement. It's pretty damn creepy. I've been encountering more and more atheists that are libertarian or conservative, also a lot of disaffected liberals who don't align themselves with the current left in any way.

Lmao, right? If my choices are a mostly Christian nation where some people are pushy and annoying, and public school teachers grooming kids while an entire side of the political aisle runs cover for them, I'll take the first thank you very much. Fucking sad those seem to be the options, but that's where we are. You can't be a leftist and an atheist at the same time, because leftism has mutated into a religion of itself.

Most atheists are agnostic, you're not either an atheist or an agnostic, you can be both. Atheism refers to a lack of belief in God, agnostic refers to a lack of affirmative knowledge, or at least the claim of affirmative knowledge.

@Ro7770 how is just saying "I'll believe it when I see proof" an appeal to authority? What authority or authorities is that attempting to appeal to?
1
@Ro7770 none of those things are "proof" though, that's just something that gave you a strong inclination towards God existing. And that's fine, you can believe whatever you want to believe, but you don't have any actual proof that God exists. If you did you would be the richest and most famous person in the world. Saying "I don't know" is the only honest answer, because nobody knows. And you can still believe if you want, I really don't care, 90% of the world believes in God in some capacity, I'm not one of these pretentious leftists who thinks I'm too smart to believe in religion, it's just a difference of opinion. But I still don't see how that's some kind of appeal to authority. It's just admitting to what I don't know.

More people are abused by public school teachers than members of the church, both by net numbers and per capita.

@Domzdream you didn't actually read my comment, did you? I'm an atheist. I'm just not a pretentious douche bag about it like all the leftist cult members who think they're atheists.
