My girlfriend is pregnant, I'm proposing to her today. It's all moving pretty fast, we haven't been together very long, but I'm going to devote myself 100% to her and our boy (we just found out it's a boy the other day).

@thenameisananagram being raised in a "traditional" home isn't a guarantee of success, just like being raised by a single mom or otherwise "non traditional" home isn't a guarantee of poverty. But statistically, looking at the averages over millions of homes and several decades, the disadvantages of single parent households are staggering.

@smelltheglove2038 oof, that's harsh. Yea I'm not too worried about that, she's not really political but she's not a leftist, she has common sense, when I tell her about ridiculous political stories in the clown world we live in, she always laughs.

Sad, and more sadly, not uncommon at all. I don't disagree with traditional conservatives about marriage on principle, I see where they're coming from. But I think a lot of the older generations are a little out of touch with the reality of the current state of marriage and divorce. It's pretty brutal out there for young men

@jimluebke3869 what I've always found funny about the "born this way" argument, is that they're accidentally admitting that they think there's something wrong with being gay. Because if they genuinely felt like there's nothing wrong with it, it wouldn't matter whether you choose it or are born that way. If someone asks you why you like vanilla ice cream, you're not going to flip out and start trying to explain how you were just born with your taste buds, and you can't help what kind of ice cream you like. Because it doesn't matter. You can like whatever ice cream you want to like, and there's probably some degree of both nature and nurture, both when it comes to your ice cream preference, your sexual preference, and honestly most other things.

@ninjapixiemama4659 yea we've known each other for about 8 months, been together for 6. I'm 38, never been married, no kids, she's 39, 2 kids from a previous marriage. So this is all new territory for me. Never been more motivated and positive about something in my life though, we've both had a pretty interesting road to get where we are, lots of mistakes, lots of rough patches, but ever since we met it seems like everything has been moving in a forward direction.

@skylinefever I have a theory that I call "Ozzy Osbourne Disorder", that some people for whatever reason are immune, or mostly immune to substances. And this is probably known in the medical community, and kept under wraps. Because part of the oath of medicine is to "do no harm", which typically entails telling patients about any kind of disorder they have. But if you have a 20 year old patient, and test results show they can drink a million beers and do every drug on the planet without suffering the same negative consequences as normal people, it could actually be quite harmful for them to know that. Just because you won't die directly from drug use doesn't mean you can't wrap your car around a tree driving drunk, or just screw up your life in general. I call it Ozzy Osbourne Disorder for obvious reasons, because let's be real, the fact that dude is still kicking makes absolutely zero sense, a normal person probably would have already overdosed 35 times after consuming as much illicit substances as him.

A perpetual cycle. Girls raised by single moms are more likely to become single moms, boys raised by single moms are more likely to commit crimes and abandon their kids. It seems to get worse with every generation too, it's a downward spiral.

What if my girlfriend pretty much lives with me, but doesn't technically live with me because she's not on the lease and still sorta lives at her house, she's just never home? Did I find some kind of cheat code?

@umiluv yea that's about where I'm at, I have stronger libertarian leanings than conservative, but I'm sure as hell nowhere close to a leftist. Those people are bat shit insane, and they couldn't even accidentally have a good idea about anything. I believe in social enforcement of values and principles that have shown to be successful, but not legal enforcement. Just because those values are more successful on average doesn't mean there's a "one size fits all" formula for raising kids to be successful. One thing is for damn sure, free government gibs haven't helped our situation at all. If you were to dig deeper into people who were raised in decent conservative homes and became addicts or some other kind of degenerate behaviors, most of them probably had too much handed to them and didn't have to overcome enough personal adversity to really appreciate what they were given.

@jimluebke3869 it's really not that silly of a position. I'm not sure if I would go that far, but if you really think about it, the criminalization of drunk driving is basically criminalizing potential crimes. Nobody is hurt just because you drove drunk. It's dangerous, sure, but you're hard pressed to find another crime that's still a crime if nothing happens other than the potential for a crime. I don't think I can get on board with making it completely legal to drive drunk, but I think the charge for just simply being drunk and driving should be far less harsh than it is, there should only be harsh penalties if you drive drunk and get into an accident.

@jimluebke3869 but in an attempted murder, you actually are attempting to commit a crime. Nobody intends to commit a crime other than driving drunk when they're driving drunk. I know that the act of getting drunk is intentional, so you are responsible for any action you take after that, but driving is not illegal, drinking is not illegal, drinking and driving in and of itself is not harming anyone. Again, I'm not saying it isn't reckless, there definitely should be some legal ramifications just as a deterrent. But some of the penalties are completely absurd, and don't actually solve anything other than lining the pockets of politicians.

Because communism teaches it's cult followers to "question everything", even things that are so goddamn obvious it only takes about 3 seconds of critical thinking to realize the conventional knowledge is correct. Except their idea of "questioning" things is to just simply throw out the conventional knowledge, because it goes against the cult teachings, and replace it with complete nonsense that has absolutely no foundation in logic or reasoning.
