Nah, way overrated. It's fine, there's nothing wrong with it, it's not a bad movie. But it's not that great either. It's no different than the other 5,000 gangster movies with the exact same plot and slight variations of the same characters.

@DNAsGhostzHouze I think Field of Dreams deserves a mention in this category too. I know it's a little niche, because it's a sports movie, but it's also so much more than that, it's about love, family, and finding meaning in life. And there is absolutely no flaws or plot holes, it's well shot, well acted, and the perfect length too, it doesn't drag on longer than it needs to.

I've never understood why people like gangster movies so much, they're all the exact same story with slightly different characters and different actors, sometimes. It's not even different actors half the time, it's just a different combination of the same 20 actors. I honestly think 90% of people don't actually like gangster movies, they just say they like them so they don't have to hear people yell at them for not liking them, because for some weird reason people insist that you HAVE to like The Godfather and Goodfellas and all the other cliche gangster movies that aren't as good as people pretend they are.

I think the meaning of that phrase is that it typically eventually catches up to you. Crime definitely pays in the short term pretty frequently, but in most cases you'll eventually get caught, and even if you don't, it's hard to live a fulfilled life when you're on the run from authorities all or most of the time.

@plick645 it's not that they're bad movies, they're just boring once you've seen them. It's all the same shit, even if it's well put together shit.

@Arassar sure, to an extent, but at least funny movies make you laugh, at least action movies are exciting, at least horror movies are scary. Those are more enjoyable to watch even if they're cliche. The same gangster story that's been told a thousand times is just..... Boring.

@michaeldoolan7595 I know I'm gonna get some hate for this, but I don't love The Usual Suspects. It's good, I'm definitely not trying to say it's a bad movie, same with Goodfellas, but I just didn't really care for it that much. Maybe it's because I was late for the party, I didn't see it until some years after it came out, and I already knew about the whole Kint is Soze thing, because I had heard people talk about it before I saw it. So I guess the plot twist just didn't hit the same for me.

@dannygooner77 I thought it kinda dragged towards the end. I like it fine, but it's not something I would want to rewatch, the last half or maybe third of it is a chore.

I can somewhat understand the psychology, I like watching true crime documentaries and shit about serial killers, because their mentality is so foreign and opposite from my own, it's interesting to me. I don't really care for gangster movies, but I think the reasoning of people who do like them is the same, or at least similar.
