The stitches on a fastball don't look like anything, it's just a spinning ball. The spin on a curve ball or slider forms a circle, you look for that to read if the ball is going to break. Off speed pitches like a changeup or splitter spins slower. You're basically looking for anything but a fastball, because it's easier to speed your swing up for a fastball than it is to slow down for an off speed pitch. Or you can just look for one specific pitch and just not swing at anything else.

@thanksfernuthin oh you're not entirely wrong with your concept, it's just a little off line. It's really more the hitting the ball part that people seem to have a natural aptitude for or not, reading pitches is more of the learned habits. Which can actually be harder for the people with a stronger natural aptitude, bc they often have a mentality like "just let me but the ball, bro", and you can get a long way on instinct, but at a certain point it catches up and you have to use your head and combine it with your instincts.
