  1. They made a great point about the semi-anonymity of living in the city, vs a smaller town or suburbs. If you act like a dick at the local supermarket, there's a better chance of people you actually know seeing you act that way, it's pretty easy to build a bad reputation in a small town. When there's a million of you packed into a few city blocks, you're probably not gonna see anyone you know that well, everyone cares less about being seen acting like a dick, because everyone is acting like a dick anyway. It has a sort of multiplying effect, the more densely packed you are, the more inappropriate people behave.

  3. That's true, but I think there's also just an inherently flawed design of so many people living so close together, it's so much easier for bad governance to take over. You're not wrong in that it definitely matters, there's definitely such thing as good and bad governance. But even a better governed big city is still going to have problems with corruption and crime, that's just the way it's probably always going to be in big cities.

  5. ​ @ziggytheassassin5835  if you act like an ass at the local supermarket in a small town, everyone is gonna know about it, and it's not gonna take a lot for you to get a reputation as an asshole. Do the same thing in a big city of millions of people, nobody is gonna notice or care. Smaller communities have more accountability.
