@jacobross735 lol, UFC was throwing him a softball, because they know he could be a potential cash cow, but coming off a major injury can be unpredictable. They're not gonna throw him in there with a contender immediately.

Yea it's one of those things that has a huge gap between "good enough to fight" and 100%. It can be a nagging injury that's never fully healthy again. So far so good, but he didn't really have to test it a lot.

I gotta see Aspinall vs Pavlovich, that sounds like a hell of a title contender fight.

@thatchet7115 Overeem was the only loss of his career though, in his UFC debut. I don't think you can hate Pavlovich for that, as much as people clown on Reem, he's one of the best to ever do it at heavyweight. There's no shame in losing to him, even late in his career. He's always dangerous and he has a unique amount of experience. It's hard for a young fighter to train for that.

@Secret-Juice it's not that hard to recover from major knee surgery and go back to living a mostly sedentary life. It is, however, extremely hard to have a major knee surgery and go back to competing at the highest level of full contact sports. Not many humans can do that.

@paulybcanuck I think Pav KOs Tom in the 2nd. Tom has great defense and he's light on his feet, but Pav has his own sneaky footwork, his boxing is on point. He's good at being in a strong position to throw strikes from, even when he's defending or moving back. Those guys are dangerous, to absolutely anyone.

@mikeymaiku calm down buddy, I'm not spitting on anything, Tom looked great. I'm just being real, before the knee injury he wouldn't have even been fighting Tybura. UFC wanted him to win. It's ok to admit it. But he knocked it out of the park, you really can't ask for much more in a get me over fight.

@thatchet7115 hey man, Pavlovich is a huge unknown entity at this point. He's absolutely smoked almost everyone he's ever fought, but he's untested. He may be the real deal, everyone starts somewhere. But he may struggle at the highest level too though. I don't think the loss to Overeem really tarnishes his record though, with very few exceptions, everyone loses sometimes. The all time greats have some losses on their record that make you scratch your head.

@mitra7195 Gane is fighting Spivac soon too, Aspinall took pretty much zero damage tonight. He probably wants to fight sooner than either of them will be ready again.

Everyone acting like Stipe already lost, I'm being real about it, I know it's a long shot, I know the overwhelming likelihood is Jones dusts him in the first round. BUT, on the other side, if there was a dark horse for an upset, Stipe is the guy. His boxing is A+, and fight IQ is A+++, he can make in-fight adjustments and win, he's done it several times. If he can find a home for those left body punches he can make another epic comeback win.

@Osamas_worst_nightmare at the rate Jones and Stipe fight at, that next title fight might be over a year from now. Aspinall and Pavlovich both probably want to fight at least once before then.

@thatchet7115 yea you're right, he's really hyped up though. I've been watching MMA for a long time though, I give him a greater than 50% chance of being properly hyped, his punches are other worldly, he's got that unteachable power, where he doesn't even have to really connect well to wobble or even KO opponents. That's rare, even for heavyweights. And he seems like a smart guy, he's young, he's extremely disciplined with the way he throws strikes, he knows he's freaky powerful so he doesn't load up all the time, he just focuses on fundamentals and landing punches, let's his power do the rest. That's smart, it usually takes a long time to learn that.

@paulybcanuck true. And either way, I'm liking this new breed of huge, athletic heavyweights with real skills. Not trying to say that's brand new, but it's always been pretty rare. It seems to be becoming less rare.
