They didn't choose to be slaves.

@tcritt working within that profession and paying off the debt? Because that's the implication when you're given a student loan, that you're going to use this money to get an education that will open the door for you to get a high paying job. And if it doesn't, then you made a poor investment.
2
@tcritt I'm saying it's unethical, because it is. You don't take money away from people who did nothing wrong so you can give it to people who willingly took out a debt they can't pay. That's wrong. Period. And just because you say it would benefit society doesn't mean it will, you're the one running on emotion here. I don't think giving more free handouts to people who already pissed away their first free handout is a good idea.
2
It doesn't really help any of us, considering it's just going to further devalue the dollar.
2
That's not very progressive of you, I think everyone should get one hundred million billion jillion cabillion million trillion zillion dollars. Yea. I am king progressive.

It can never be "free", things like faculty salary, physical supplies and the buildings have to be paid for, not to mention things like basic utilities, cafeteria, etc etc etc. If you think it should be paid for by taxes so that students don't have to pay out of pocket, ok, I disagree, but that's your opinion. Just at least be honest about your opinion and call it what it actually is.

@tcritt I didn't miss the point at all, I think you're missing the point. You were given a loan under the pretense that you should be able to use your college degree to pay it back. It's not a difficult concept. Although, the fact that you can't grasp it also explain why you weren't able to figure out how to use a college degree to get a decent job. And no, I wouldn't support forcing people to pay for other people's stupid decisions no matter the theoretical outcome, because it's unethical, full stop.
1
@tcritt so based on your logic, we shouldn't have freed the slaves. Because if you were just crunching the numbers, most of American society profited off of the free labor. It was unethical, but according to you, that's not an argument. The free labor was a net benefit, so I guess emancipation was a mistake, according to your logic.
1
@tcritt so why did we have slavery in the first place? Someone obviously benefitted.
1
@tcritt you brought us here, because you can't directly answer a question. Because you're dishonest. And it's hilarious that you don't even realize the direct correlation between the slavery comparison, you're advocating for something that will only help the rich elites you hate.
1
Yea where's the lie? This is rewarding people who made poor decisions at the expense of people who made better decisions, simple as. There's not another way to view it, that's what it is, it's not debatable.

@tavroaar8173 non sequitur.

@littlebitofhope1489 so they made a bad decision. Got it. Glad we agree.
1
That's not entirely true, there are people who don't benefit and are still in support of it, because they're stupid, and they don't understand this will further devalue the dollar and decrease their buying power.

@AuthorLeoKing we're supposed to. That's kind of the point of having elected representatives.
