Will be interesting to see what society thinks several years from now, when millions of kids who are sterilized from procedures they were pressured into when they were too young to understand the full ramifications are having regrets.

@mmw5656 exactly, there's a reason we try to limit the permanent, life altering decisions that teenagers make. Because they're bat shit insane, they're impulsive, they're trying to find where they fit into the world socially, so they're highly impressionable. That's why you should be extra suspicious of anyone who's this adamant about pushing their ideology onto kids or teenagers.

@jaycorbin trans people have always existed, and have remained a relatively steady percentage of the population, a very, very, very small percentage. But in specific areas where far left ideology is more common, the rate has increased by as much as 4,000% in the past several years. Why do you think that is?

@julieblair7472 well do you think people from broken homes, who are more generally confused and lost in life are more likely to vote democrat? And do you think people in a more traditional family are more likely to vote Republican? You can't really deny that breaking apart families and making more people dependent on the government favors democrats. And you can't really deny that we've seen a sharp and increasing phenomenon of more single mothers, and more adults living with a parent or parents in the last several decades. This is statistically and verifiably true.

@rileyfuckingrifle you're partly right, all kids do deserve a childhood. That's why they shouldn't be burdened by radical gender ideology by adult groomers. Kids aren't straight, or gay, or trans, they're just kids. They figure out their sexuality on their own, at the appropriate age.

@Persuasive Barrier it's a lot easier to change the way you dress or the music you listen to than it is to reverse puberty blockers or reassignment surgery. This isn't just a fashion fad that they can give up as easily as they accepted it.

Even if that were true, so what? He's an adult, he has the agency to consent and make his own life decisions. That's completely different than putting confusing ideas into the heads of kids who are already confused just by virtue of growing up.

@mmw5656 I'm pretty sure the brain is mostly developed by about 18, but there are certain cognitive functions that take longer to develop, somewhere from 24-28. And it would stand to reason that something more abstract like sexuality and gender expression would take longer to fully work out than more objective cognitive functions.

@gorillaguerillaDK no that's more of a reason why we shouldn't allow for any kind of irreversible surgery or medicine for minors claiming to be trans. For the same reason we don't let minors get tattoos, because they're bat shit insane and they don't know what they want.

@sunderedsoul6495 he actually has a point here though, there's absolutely zero doubt that the sharp increase in kids identifying as trans is a social contagion. If it wasn't, then we wouldn't see such a dramatic difference between further left areas and more rural areas. Most of the country, the percentage of people identifying as trans has remained roughly the same as it always has been, but in certain select areas, it's increased by as much as 4,000% just in the span of a few years. You can't ask for a more clear example of a social contagion.

@gerttopmuller I've always thought the "born this way" argument was weird and inconsistent, if your friends give you shit because of a kind of food you eat, you wouldn't get defensive and start saying you can't help it, and you were just born with your taste buds. Because it doesn't matter, you can like whatever food you want to like, you don't have to defend it or justify it. And it probably has something to do with your taste buds, something to do with the way you were raised, and something to do with just acquiring a taste for certain things. It's probably all of that, to varying degrees. Can be interesting to think and talk about, but that's all. There's no moral implications to it. If someone genuinely thinks there's nothing wrong with being gay or trans, then they wouldn't bother trying to justify it as inherent, they would just say yea so what? If you think about it, anyone who argues "born this way" is basically accidentally admitting they think there's something wrong with being gay or trans.
