The "slippery slope" is only a fallacy if you can point to a specific place where the trend is going to stop, and give a specific reason why it will stop there. Otherwise "slippery slope fallacy" is just something people say because they don't have a legitimate counter argument.

@Sombriage that's a completely legitimate grievance to have with the Canadian government's response to the protest, if they can just proclaim emergency powers to shut down a protest, what in the hell makes you think they wouldn't abuse that in the future? Because they're your friends, because they're on your side?

@DianaMarieBailey that's the whole point in arguing against changes in law or policy, you have to look to how it could potentially be abused in the future, because if you just say ok now and hope nothing bad will happen later, it will already be too late when something bad happens later.
