Meritless people think their failures are someone else's fault.

@drewharrison6433 so you're taking the scenic route to saying life isn't fair. Got it.

Someone had to earn that money at some point.

That doesn't make any sense, christian values are in no way contradictory to merit.

@towada1066 I think the serenity prayer is a pretty good summary of where christian values line up with balancing faith and humility with meritocracy.

@towada1066 I don't know what you're talking about.

@drewharrison6433 no, he's not wrong, if you're trying to argue that nature is more powerful than nurture, then we would see a much higher percentage of the children of highly successful people being highly successful on their own merits. In fact athletics would actually suggest the opposite, a lot of the best legacy athletes throughout sports had a father than was a mediocre player, it's almost as though growing up around elite athletes, but with a father that wasn't quite elite is the recipe for success, you would expect the opposite in sports if nature was a more important factor. The most talented athletes would have the most talented kids.

@drewharrison6433 that's horse shit, at a certain point in your life you have to own your own decisions. And just like nature and nurture, it's not an absolute, it's not like when you turn 13 or 17 or whatever other arbitrary age you're suddenly your own person, but as you grow older you gain increasing agency of your own actions. If you're a regular person at least, and you don't cave in and become a leftist.

@drewharrison6433 we already do. It's called meritocracy. Someone who's dealt a shitty hand in life probably isn't going to be an astronaut, pro baseball player, and the most handsome man on the planet all at the same time. But that's fine. They can still have a good life if they work hard and do the right things. That's what meritocracy does. It gives opportunities for everyone to improve their situation, even if not everyone has the same opportunities. They're still there. You can't give everyone the same outcomes, and you can't even give them the same opportunities, and the more you try to do so, the more you strip away what it means to be human in the first place. Stop crying and get a job. You're not going to be rich and famous, mostly because you suck at life, and also because not very many people are rich and famous.
1
@drewharrison6433 also should clarify that I meant attempting to give everyone the same outcomes strips away our humanity, not giving them the same opportunity. You're obviously the kind of dishonest jackass that will grasp at any straw man you can get your weasely hands on. So I wanted to take that one away from you before you have the chance. Equalizing opportunities can be beneficial to a certain extent.

It's almost always the left that makes things about race.

This is just red meat for people who aren't good at anything.

@credman nice left wing conspiracy theory.
