From what I understand, he just made up as many victim points as he could, to flip a seat republican. Was it dishonest? Yep. But the real people to blame are the people who voted for him just because of his fake victim status. It was a troll of sorts, to cast more light on how ridiculous racial guilt has become in this country.

I kinda read it differently, I think he wanted the scandal, I think he wanted it to open people's eyes to how ridiculous the identity politics obsession has become. A Republican won a typically Democrat seat, ONLY because he claimed to be gay and Jewish. That's how absurd this nonsense is. A convicted serial killer could claim to be trans, and run for office, they would win by a landslide in any democrat stronghold, even if their campaign slogan was "vote for me and I'll kill all your children".
