I remember when conservatives were tough on crime, and liberals were soft on crime, but we all agreed that crime is bad, and we should do the best we can to limit it. We just had different views of how to do that. Now the left has gone full pro criminal, it's completely unhinged and indefensible.

@linhero797 I don't agree on most soft on crime policies, I think they're ineffective at best, and counter productive at worst. But there is a difference between soft on crime and pro criminal, there's a gradient. Soft on crime would be wanting reduced prison time and probation or parole instead, or wanting prisons to focus more on reform and rehab than on retribution and deterrent. Again, I don't agree, I'm much more tough on crime than traditional liberals, but I understand the sentiment, and it's not at all the same as what the left is doing now.

@linhero797 as long as there is a moderate push/pull between the 2 sides, I disagree with what you're saying. I hear what you're saying, but the only reason it's become a problem is because the left has gone too far left. We had relative stability for a long time in the US, until pretty recently, because both sides generally understood the other side. We don't want to go too far right on crime either, and start tossing people in the gulag for 5 years on minor charges. That would probably be preferable to what we have now, but it still wouldn't be ideal.
