@TheBlujy exactly, "slippery slope" gets overused to an obnoxious degree, but this is a real example of a slippery slope. Progressives draw no distinction between the CEO of an insurance company and a middle class conservative, to them, we're all capitalists. Justifying this is justifying the same thing happening to you.

Our culture and morality has really degraded. It doesn't take a lot to take the high road over an insurance weasel, but somehow, people are still taking the low road.

That's the part I really can't wrap my head around, progressives and conservatives actually agree with the diagnosis, our healthcare system sucks. But their prescription is absolutely insane, marrying the government and insurance companies would be the worst possible scenario. We need to reduce the power and influence insurance companies have, not increase it.

@chickginger most conservatives and libertarians still have their brain in the right place, with all of its parts functioning as it should. But there are still some blind spots, this is definitely one of them. It's definitely not as bad on our side, pretty much 100% of the left is clapping and cheering for St. Luigi, but it's a lot more split on the right. Way too many people are supportive of it, but some of us still have our principles and say wrong is wrong, and 2 wrongs don't make a right.

We need to change our culture, and get people to realize you don't need insurance, you never did. If given the choice between paying in advance for something you might never need, or owing money later after you needed it, just about everyone would choose the latter, but people don't look at it that way. They've just always been told they need insurance, and they've never thought about it critically.

It's been really dissapointing to see so many conservatives cheering this on, and I do get that it hasn't been as extreme or widespread as the left, but it's still way too many people. I get that the CEO was not a good person, nobody has to tell me how horrible insurance megacorps are, I'm closer to libertarian than conservative. But this is not the way, you don't get to do this to someone just because they're involved in repulsive business practices that cause harm, we need to change the system. Not to mention in the eyes of progressives, none of us are any different from him, we're all capitalists, and we're all evil, in their mind.

@fcold9402 which is why they're promoting nonsense like "body positivity", and taking a pill to fix any and every problem you can possibly have. They want as many "preexisting conditions" as possible, so they can deny as many claims as possible. Which is already a problem with private insurance, but giving the government the keys to the castle would mean there's nothing holding them back at all. We would be forced to pay for absurdly expensive insurance that most of us will never see a dime of.
