"Uncle Ted" was pre-9/11, so was Oaklahoma City, Waco, the first Twin Towers bombing, the USS Cole bombing, and so on, so there were plenty of precursors...if only they'd caught up to Bin Laden and his ilk before they attacked.... Someone will write a book on the transition from that pre 9/11 world to the post-machine learning era and AI dominance which is coming now... In a way I'm thankful I'm 70+ and don't have to go through it all again.

I think the key is to accept the now and be thankful for whatever life brings you.... compassion for all living things is important as we grope our way forward.... "Onward through the fog" as Oat Willie said after Mr. Natural noted, "Twas ever thus" (which was paraphrased in a popular song as "same as it ever was...") Your comment on the concept of personal privacy and how it changed has been something I've thought about a lot.... it's one aspect of our great crisis of being in the dawning of the AI age ... Call it Moloch as in the poem, "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg....
