  3. North Korea is definitely the hardest country to escape in the world for the reasons you stated. Of course that isn't to say that several other countries aren't very difficult to escape.

  13. Countries change a lot for better or for worse overtime. Just look at how much better Germany has gotten within decades, and in the opposite direction how much worse Iran has gotten within decades. For countries that are very dangerous and difficult to visit, it’s best just to wait.

  15. The only places on this list that really surprised me are Thailand and South Africa. It seems like Thailand is fine if you use common sense. I didn’t realize South Africa was that dangerous though. I always thought it was relatively safe including Cape Town and Johannesburg.
