Yes I Noticed that about ssris. Zoloft did reduce my depression but it did so making me numb and hollow. Sure I wasn’t waking up dreading the day but I wasn’t excited for it either. And I laughed quite a bit Less on the ssri . Oh and then you have the sexual side effects which really put a damper on Things Snris helped make me feel more alive but I still felt a bit hollow. Welbutrin(buproprion) made me feel better for maybe a week or so but that’s it. It actually made me more anxious too Daily exercise helps a lot but the effects aren’t permanent

@Chaaabrah90 yep. Snris like Cymbalta were more effective at reducing depression and giving me motivation than any ssri . Ssris tended to reduce depression by replacing it with apathy - a comfortably numb feeling and I didn’t like that

Plus I don’t like that many just jump on medication without even trying to clean up their diet and exercise. Imo a good % of people that are depressed could be helped simply by adopting a healthier lifestyle(exercise, no alcohol or drugs, good diet and sleep) and they don’t need medication

“Getting onto SSRIs is a nightmare” Only for a small % of people though. The vast majority do feel side effects at the beginning but they mostly go away and then they notice a reduction in anxiety and/or depression. I find there is hysteria sometimes around medication .

@lexione14 I think that is correct . I always ask people(especially the atheist types) what makes them Think they should be happy at all? What or how is happiness defined? I just think if you see life as just instantaneously happening a long time ago(and we are clumps of living cells) why would we be any happier than say a tiger or dog? And yeah, I’m not sure how you can expect to be happy when you must work 50 hours a week and deal with the other bs that life throws at you .

@paulo0e mirtaxapine helped me fall asleep better but damn It ruined the first half of the next day. That was no way to Live

@MineXplayPL hmm do you feel that large of an increase in anxiety on days you forget to take your dose? Are you taking an ssri? If so I wouldn’t think you’d notice much difference at all if you just missed a single day as it takes a few days to get out of your system

Agree and although I find ssris and snris effective at reducing depression they don’t work like I’d want them To. Sure they reduce depression but they also numb you a bit. On ssris I was mostly content if I just sat around all day and I didn’t like that. I’d like a medication or treatment that helps me feel enthusiastic to wake up and do things and take vacations etc etc. it’s very frustrating to have that lack of pep and motivation

@robertwilliamson922 yep and a pretty big side effect of ssris is the sexual issues. On Zoloft it got to the point where I was basically asexual - I literally had no desire to have sex and seeing an attractive woman did nothing. Viagra and cialis do nothing for this either as they reduce sexual dysfunction - they do nothing for instructing sexual desire. I really hope the medical community manages to fix this sex side effect problem

You gained weight because you rate too much and don’t exercise enough. I don’t like when folks blame a medication for making them Gain 30 plus pounds. Medications may make you crave sugar or make you feel more lethargic but they don’t make you put on weight if your diet is sensible

True but in my experience it’s often difficult to truly solve the major underlying problems that are causing the depression. Tbh I’ve met maybe 1 person that truly had been able to conquer their depression with therapy to the point where they no Longer need medication and consider themselves to be depression free. For most depression sufferers - it’s often a lifelong battle even if you go to therapy and take medication

@breakingbruh4930 medication isn’t going to make you fat on its own. It may make you more lethargic to where you are not as active and eat more and this gain weight as a result. You can take any Medication and eat sensibly and you won’t gain weight . Stop blaming the meds for weight Gain
