Yes and we need to discuss ‘toxic femininity’.. I’ve seen it plenty of times yet it’s never talked about .. why?
34
Sure and it matters who the majority are in the area or room. I’ve seen Hispanics get bullied by whites, whites bullied by blacks, light skinned blacks get bullied by darker skinned blacks and the list goes on. All groups get bullied depending on the area they live in. We are very tribal and the more we obsess on our differences the more tribal we will get
18
Dude in the corner had the most sane takes though. The fact you see it the opposite way tells me a lot
14
Please hear me out - the term ‘toxic masculinity’ has lost all meaning. You just called him toxic because you disagree with him . That’s it
14
@bobbyrandomguy1489 it’s not only victim mindset but they are setting themselves up for a lifetime of grievance.
10
I struggle with thinking what we currently see in men is progress. Conversations are being had but men are more confused now than they ever have been. What is masculinity? Toxic masculinity? Getting rid of gender roles are things that are truly baffling to me and we think this is progress? I knew growing up what my role as a man was, these younger guys don’t. It’s tragic
10
True, what’s funny is Vice doesn’t realize this. Plus, so many women on the right are gorgeous
9
I don’t want to live anywhere close to those types of people ..
8
The system favors those that created the system - of course this is the way it should be. If I moved to Japan, their system will favor Asian men and their culture. That’s the way it should be. If we expect a system to favor multiple races and cultures equally then we are the confused ones
7
Yep and what’s comical is she doesn’t realize how racist she is and probably is the first to call everyone else racist or sexist lol
7
I know and that’s why I’m so against this type of obsessing about skin color and privilege. It is incredibly divisive and ultimately offers up no practical solutions - it’s just endless grievances .. it’s basically “trauma competing”
6
@TheKayleeanna but we then have to have the really serious discussion on WHY those with darker skin were seen as not as same value. This is an area that no one is willing to tackle with any sort of honesty.
5
@60kai_57 haha trust me man I’m trying to figure out! I watch programs like this that obsess about skin color and racism and just shake my head. There’s so much wrong with it that I don’t even know where to start
5
@@SuperBrahimoshalf of these men are lost.
5
Toxic masculinity is a useless term at this point. Besides I’m only willing to talk about it as long as we equally talk ‘toxic femininity’.
4
@JayMitchTwin do you realize how racist other countries are though? Many comments I read on here don’t seem to have any idea how other countries treat black peoples. Ever look at Asian countries or how Indian populations treat blacks? That’s what kills me is people think america is by far the racist but no, it’s the opposite. We are by far the most liberal and accepting when it comes to other cultures, races and sexual orientations . Btw your mindset will make it a definite that race will always matter. You can’t obsess about race and skin color and expect people to not see your race.
4
@ifonlyicared I’m also thinking she has deeper issues that go beyond skin color. You can just tell by the way she holds herself
4
@in2blueoblivion colorism may exist but the solution to it is not obsessing about skin color. I see these guests on here seeing everything through the lens of race and it’s sad. Does race play a part? It might but so does beauty, health and class.
3
So many beautiful women on the right. The left - not so much
3
@whateverwhatever4026 yep, everything to them is about skin color and privilege . It’s a terrible way to go through life
3
But how can you not realize that the comment you made us sexist and racist towards black men? You realize that you are trying to fight racism and sexism with racism and sexism. Don’t even give me that “reverse sexism doesn’t exist” nonsense
3
@ParisAlxandr thank you! I also notice the zero accountability taken by many talking about colorism. Until we start doing this there’s no point in these discussions
3
@volant1559 so what is your goal to reduce colorism then? I see so much complaining about colorism but never any practicsl solutions .. I find these talks to be counter productive as a result
3
@KiingM well he is woke - he just recites the same talking points.
3
But the non binary man actually said he doesn’t believe men are more logical(less emotional) than women on average..I mean come on - anyone with life experience or that has looked at the data could tell you that women(on average) are more neurotic and emotional than men. We need to deal with reality
2
@tigermilk96 implicit bias is something that really shouldn’t be brought up too much as there’s not nearly enough research done on it. Besides, if we are going to just start assuming what person a or b is thinking then we are doomed
2
What do you think of white people that tan often to get darker skin?
2
But what does she and other black women think of white women that ran often? With their ideology, you’d think white people would strive to be whiter but they don’t.. the fact that this was not brought up once in this discussion is almost comical but also shows how lacking in common sense it was
2
I honestly feel more confused and pessimistic after watching these Vice debates. Most turn into endless “trauma competing”
2
Lol but saying “black is beautiful” is racist in itself. Is white beautiful or brown beautiful?
2
Jesus ok so basically in your view, colorism is the root cause of most bad or good interactions with people with different skin tones than you.. don’t you see though that your world view is self reinforcing? What practical solutions do you have to fix colorism?
2
@jmon651 it’s tragic what has happened to Vice. Racism does exist but the folks on these panels are professional victims . I bet they don’t even recognize they have American privilege
2
But you notice how no one on the panel mentioned that many white people often ran to get darker skin? People test each other differently based on a wide variety of characteristics - it’s a mistake to focus on just skin color
2
@Agee1 so basically you wanted two black men on that will agree with you on everything related to colorism? You want an echo chamber
2
Guy here and I actually cringe at a lot of what was said in this discussion. The constant throwing around of the term “toxic masculinity” and other guys have no idea what being a man is. When I was growing up, I knew my role as a man and so did my male peers. We never even talked about masculinity or the toxicity that goes with it. I feel we have went backwards in the last 5-10 years. It’s obviously not helping young men - just go look at the data
2
The highest rate of colorism occurs in the black community
2
So let’s start by not saying that male behavior is ‘toxic’ .. next let’s stop obsessing with race and gender. If we could do these two things we’d be much better off
2
Yep and people see this as “progress”… lol
2
@sotetsotetsotetsotetsotet2379 it’s so stupid isn’t it? These guys are labeling rather normal behavior that allowed our in-group to survive ‘toxic’ .. I don’t even know at this point lol
1
@PixieMeat_444 is wanting to change your hair color to that of a different race also a problem? I see quite a few black women that have straight blonde hair weaves . How far do you take this sort of thing? It seems endless
1
@Catlily5 I’d caution reading this comment section as your head will Begin to explode. I know mine is. There’s so much wrong here that I don’t even know where to begin
1
Most of these people are beaten period since they see everything through the lens of skin color or racism Or sexism. What a paralyzing mindset
1
So much wrong here. Obsessing about skin color or “privilege” is pointless. We each are a unique bundle of privileges and to try and call each of these out is silly and counter productive. How these people can’t see it is beyond me . Oh and the skin color obsessing is equally as destructive Oh and whenever someone brings up that “reverse racism and reverse sexism doesn’t exist” or that “racism has to do with institutional power” I immediately stop listening to that person. They are indoctrinated and will bark the same often wrong talking points
1
Yet not a single person this panel will recognize how privileged they are to be America . They seem to think America is the most racist and oppressive 🥴
1
@NotesNNotes lol at black bloc or antifa being against fascism or racism. They are fascist and racist and assault people.
1
@karlmarx7511 black block and antifa are infants mentally. They have no clue how the real world works . They have no answers and only worsen the problems
1
@melanatedmulatta7319 she lives in a Eurocentric country though so of course the beauty standard will be Eurocentric .. do we expect america to promote African-centric standards? Or something else? I’m confused
1
@melanatedmulatta7319 so are skin darkening creams and sprays . You do realize many Light skinned people tan and take products to make their skin darker right?
1
@Solidude4 but did you know that many white people live in poverty too? A few of The poorest towns in the country are white . It’s not system racism keeping them down .
1
Yeah I find it comical how no one in these “colorism” discussions brings up the fact that many white people tan to get darker! According to them, white people would be putting chalk on their faces as being whiter would be more beneficial lol.. common sense was missing in this discussion but it’s Vice so
