Dell's Windows restore disc only works with Dell machines e.g. my old work Dell Studio 1645 laptop has embedded Windows 7 OEM marker in BIOS. I tired using Dell's restore disc on VMWare and it failed. I made restore disc backup with a different look e.g. no Dell logo. Each Dell restore disc should be assigned to a Dell laptop i.e. Windows Product Key comes with the laptop. My recent HP Envy x360 2-in-1 tablet-laptop has embedded Windows 10 product key in UEFI (new BIOS standard) and it doesn't come with restore disc. i used ShowKey Plus tool to show the installed and embedded Windows product keys. It's worst case OS restore method is via USB flash device.
