Starshield is the military version of Starlink. Starlink's customer ground dish has AESA with beam forming tech, hence it's useful in the Ukranian-Russian conflict. Starlink has mass produced AESA communication dish. Northrop Grumman was selected as a partner for SpaceX's Starshield. The former four-star general Terrence O'Shaughnessy, who previously ran U.S. Northern Command, is the vice president for SpaceX's Special Programs Group. Any transmit capable device needs proper authorization.

Starlink is being offically deployed on USN ships. The key word is "unauthorized". The official Sat dish installer discovered the unauthorized Starlink dish. Do it by the book.

Starlink is being offically deployed via USN's SEA2 program. Official Sat dish installer discovered the unauthorized Starlink dish.

In the context of military communication satellites, Col. Eric Felt, director of space architecture at the office of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for space acquisition and integration, said that there are plans to acquire at least 100 Starshield-branded satellites for this purpose by 2029. He said that while the military is an active user of SpaceX's commercial Starlink service, they also want to take advantage of the company's dedicated Starshield product line. Clare Hopper, head of the Space Force’s Commercial Satellite Communications Office (CSCO) stated that demand for Starlink's commercial service is "off the charts" and that currently all of their supported users are still using the commercial Starlink satellite constellation, but that the DoD has "unique service plans that contain privileged capabilities and features that are not available commercially" Remember, the official sattilite ground dish installer discovered the unauthorized Starlink dish.

StarLink is being used in a real hot war.

As Starlink was being relied on in the Russo-Ukrainian war, expert on battlefield communications Thomas Wellington argued that Starlink signals, because they use narrow focused beams, are less vulnerable to interference and jamming by the enemy in wartime than satellites flying in higher orbits

@robertvondarth1730 Remember, Starlink is being used in a hot war situation.

@robertvondarth1730 US Navy recently announced that it is experimenting with bringing reliable and persistent high-speed internet to its surface warships. The connectivity comes via a new system developed under its Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore (SEA2) initiative, which uses satellites from the Starlink network maintained by SpaceX and other spaceborne broadband internet providers to maintain a constant and consistent internet connection for sailors—a system that NAVWAR says has “applications across the entire Navy.”

@brianhillis3701 Starlinks near Russia are turned off by Starlink due to Elon Musk's doesn't want Starlink to be part of an attack weapon.

@quinnomega There's no 100 percent zero vulnerability. You completely ignore the fact the USN has Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore (SEA2).

@quinnomega "Commercial links also wouldn’t be used in certain operational circumstances, such as when “emissions control” tactics or heightened cyber-hardening is required."

@durhamjut Your phone's GPS data is sent to Google's servers via the cellular data network. Many IP gateways are geolocated which can be spoofed via VPN methods. Google tracking can be defeated via VPN methods.

@anonmouse6437 USN's Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore (SEA2) initiative says Hi.
1
@anonmouse6437 Because Starlink uses the narrow beam of the Ku and Ka bands, the Starlink antennas are physically small.[31] Any signal that intends to jam Starlink needs a precise aim into the antenna.[31] This requires the attacker to get close to Ukrainian troops, in visual range of the terminals.[31] The data carried over the network is also encrypted, with software in the terminal programmed to block off signals without the encryption.[31] If the Starlink antenna steers itself towards another Starlink satellite in view, it could point away from the jamming source.[31] These properties prevent Starlink from being taken out by a single Russian attack.[30][29]
