Reminder, Russia already risked world peace by stationing their warships just outside non-NATO member Australia's EEZ during the 2014 G20 meeting. Unlike the Black Sea with NATO defense treaty allies, Russia has no defense treaty allies around Australia. In 2022, Russia did a similar activity near non-NATO member Ireland's waters. Russia was meddling in Australia's Antarctica interest that caused Australia to enlist EU support. Russia was meddling in New Zealand's Antarctica interest that caused New Zealand to enlist US support. ---- Russia went against Australia's interest in the 2014 (G20 meeting) and 2019 (AUS-NZ's Antarctic marine park plan), and are you expecting continued friendly relations between Australia and Russia? Russia doesn't respect Australia's southern sphere of influence why should Australia respect Russia's sphere of influence? Putin is the best salesman for NATO.

@davidtaylor351 My argument is the intent.

@davidtaylor351 Facts in terms of geopolitics 1. The US has defense treaty allies that are located around the South China Sea / West Philippines Sea, Sea of Japan, and the Black Sea. 2. Australia has defense treaty allies that are located around the South China Sea. Australia DID NOT execute "freedom of navigation" in the Black Sea. 3. Russia does NOT have any defense treaty allies around Australia. The only major trade routes around Australia are Australia itself and New Zealand.

@davidtaylor351 >Since the US was mentioned! They only recognise the 3 mile territorial limit. That has nothing to do with Australia. US action remains a US issue!

@davidtaylor351 What allowed by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is a red herring to geopolitics issues.
