Australia is already at Net Zero. Australian forests absorb 940 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum compared to our domestic and industrial emissions of 417 million tonnes. Add to that the absorption of carbon dioxide in continental Australia to the carbon dioxide adsorption of 2,500,000 square kilometers of continental shelf waters and Australia sequesters some five times as much carbon dioxide as it emits. Australia does more than its share of the heavy lifting for the global sequestration of carbon dioxide. Since Australia has a small population for the given land mass, Australia sequesters some five times as much carbon dioxide as it emits.

@indiathylane2158 Wrong. Read Emeritus Professor Ian Plimer’s latest book ‘Green Murder’ is published by Connor Court Publishing.

@Lee-cc9jf The left's net zero argument is for large countries with large population sizes or countries with high population densities i.e. Australia is not a small land area European country with high population density. Fools from ALP still think Australia is like some small European country that is located in Europe.

@mickoz9389 "CO2 per capita" doesn't factor in Australia's large land area's natural CO2 sequestration and smallish 26 million population numbers. This is like placing Taiwan's 25 million population size on mainland China's land area. Certain "Big Australia" population models will wreak Australia's existing natural CO2 net zero.

@indiathylane2158 Australian forests adsorb 940 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum compared to our domestic and industrial emissions of 417 million tonnes. Add to that the absorption of carbon dioxide in continental Australia to the carbon dioxide adsorption of 2,500,000 square kilometres of continental shelf waters and Australia sequesters some five times as much carbon dioxide as it emits. Australia does more than its share of the heavy lifting for global sequestration of carbon dioxide. Australia’s net contribution to global atmospheric carbon dioxide is negative. We are already at Net Zero. This is validated by the net carbon dioxide flux estimates from the IBUKI satellite carbon dioxide data set.

Solar panels absorb visual light photon energy.

There's a national security argument when Australia imports most of its petroleum from the Middle East sources, hence EVs can exploit Australia's energy sources.
