The facts, the federal LNP government blocked the Victoria's Labor government's CCP Belt and Road initiative with the new foreign investment laws in place from 1 January 2021. A 2016 Senate committee revealed that while the Foreign Investment Review Board had been contacted to look at the deal, it ultimately didn't formally investigate because, at the time, there was an exemption from scrutiny of a deal like this because it involved a private company and a state or territory government.

The Chinese-Australia influencer whose company helped the Victorian government sign up to the Belt and Road Initiative was hired "without any tender process" and without any public disclosure according to the Australian's Rachel Baxendale. Jean Dong, who has lived in Australia for close to 15 years, is the director of 'Australia China Belt and Road Initiative' a company paid more than $35,000 to consult the Victorian government on its deal with China. Ms Dong has hired key former politicians including former trade minister Andrew Robb, and former finance minister Lindsay Tanner, but without any financial compensation according to Ms Baxendale. "Are Lindsay Tanner and Andrew Robb doing this out of the goodness of their hearts," she said. Ms Baxendale told Sky News host Andrew Bolt, Jean Dong clearly has "very strong connections to powerful people within the Chinese Communist Party". ----------------------- Lindsay Tanner = Australian Labor Party

Jodie Ryan, who sat on the selection panel that chose Landbridge and was later promoted to the role of head public servant after the Gunner Labor Government's 2016 election victory. .... Back in mid-December, when the current Labor Government was trying to explain how the NT was in the middle of a full-blown financial crisis that sees it borrowing $4 million a day to keep operating, Jodie Ryan was asked in a briefing what happened to the $506 million the NT received for the port. She said it was put into general revenue and spent. It's long gone, with less than 96 years left ------------------ You blame LNP federal government for the Labor hack's selection process?

Last year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s government enacted new legislation asserting control over foreign tie-ups by all levels of government, and promptly used it to end a BRI partnership by Victoria state. Morrison also ordered his Defense Department to review its advice about the Landbridge lease, promising to be guided by it.

@ashleyember6822 ASPI’s Coyne thinks there is a “good chance” that Morrison will take a decision to buy out the Landbridge lease, endorsed by his cabinet’s national security committee to the election campaign, though he says another option could be to bring in an Australian investor and dilute Landbridge’s control.
