  1. Australia Day was always celebrated on the last Monday of January, as close as possible to 26 January, so we could all have a long weekend, whether it was 26 January or not! But the government of Labor's Paul Keating changed it so that as of 1994, Australia Day was celebrated on the actual day of 26 January. Paul Keating's 26 January created a social land mine and most leftists are silent about Paul Keating's actions.
