@oldtugs US Navy submarine has atmospheric control, life support, and fire control systems. US Navy owns crewed deep-ocean research submersible Alvin (DSV-2) which is operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Alvin (DSV-2) has been tested down to 6,500 m (21,300 ft). For emergencies, Alvin (DSV-2)'s crew section can separate from the drive section. As of 2023, Alvin is in active service, operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The research ship RV Atlantis serves as its support ship. US Navy also owns the RV Atlantis research ship. The Atlantis and three other research ships were all built with the same basic design. The three sister ships are RV Thomas G. Thompson (UW), RV Roger Revelle (Scripps) and NOAAS Ronald H. Brown (NOAA). RV Roger Revelle and RV Thomas G. Thompson are owned by the United States Office of Naval Research which is within the United States Department of the Navy. US Navy has DSV Sea Cliff (DSV-4) and Alvin (DSV-2).

The US Navy is sending a "Supervisor of Salvage and Diving" (SUPSALV). Last year, SUPSALV’s crews helped recover a F-35 stealth fighter jet that had sunk about 12,400 feet below the South China Sea. Their crews set a record in 2021 when they pulled up a MH-60S helicopter that plunged to a depth of 19,075 feet off the coast of Okinawa, Japan.
