  2. Eastern European countries don't support Putin's Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact extensions. The purpose of the US engaging the USSR in a cold war is for the US (and Western allies) to undo the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact's mainland Europe's sphere of influence division.

NATO's "open door policy" is based upon Article 10 of the Washington Treaty, which states that membership is open to any "European State in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area".
