  1. Toyota's EV failure is its own making. Heading into 2023, Tesla will have the capacity to produce 2 million EVs per year. Tesla produced 1.3 million EVs in 2022. Toyota's motor vehicle annual production is roughly 9.2 million units, mostly ICE. Toyota sold some 2.5 million hybrid electric vehicles globally in 2021. Toyota is behind in battery production.
