The current US is not dependent on Middle East oil. Only the US allies (EU, UK, Australia, Japan) are dependent on Middle East oil.

For context, there is a large 2100 km sea gap between Mauritius and the Chagos Islands. The flaw with the UK's deal with Mauritius is the lack of Chagossian input. The US shouldn't support Mauritius' imperialist aims on Chagossians. Do not repeat the UK's Hong Kong 99-year lease. If the UK wants out of Diego Garcia, then the US should abandon its support of other UK foreign interests e.g. the current US is less dependent on Middle East oil when compared to the UK, the rest of the EU countries, and Australia-New Zealand. When compared to the US, both the UK and Australia have higher dependencies on Middle East oil and both countries have Labor/Labour governments. The US presence near the Middle East largely benefits US allies' oil problem, not the current US with good oil supplies. US trade is not dependent on the Suez Canal trade route i.e. this is the US allies' problem e.g. EU's, UK's, and Australia-New Zealand's problem. When the ice melts, the Suez Canal trade route wouldn't be an issue for the EU and UK when northern Canada's trade route is opened. The Trump administration should assess the situation based on "America 1st".
