@christopherbalint8474 I have never seen him acknowledge it. I have never seen him directly say that in capitalist systems, you can accumulate wealth without merit and have the odds stacked against you even if you have merit and that aspect ought to be fixed by reform. I have never seen him bat for reforming capitalism, he always comes down on the side of preserving the status quo

@christopherbalint8474 I was talking about Mickeybat58's comment. And it is certainly a problem of capitalism that inequality accumulates over time and across generations AND SO INDEPENDENT OF MERIT. Peterson and other Conservatives always skip over thus point. They pretend that differences of outcome always boil down to differences in merit. That is deceitful and purposely so

@majin vegeta He's not saying inequality did not exist. He's saying it wasn't accentuated by the system. The hunter's surplus didn't multiply over time by social systems. And it certainly didn't get inherited so that it moulded the social equations of generations to come

@christopherbalint8474 The mere fact that you have to search for some small nod from Peterson when cornered shows clearly that Peterson's the one with an agenda, not me. If he were good faith, he'd say as often and as vociferously that capitalism needs reform as that the threat is only from people who want to remove it. It is very clear that he's keen to play to a particular gallery Even people who identity as Conservatives like Schwarzenegger and others talk about this much more openly. Peterson doesn't though he refuses to identify as a Conservative. At least his daughter is more forthright.

@majin vegeta Accumulated inequality is a consequence of capitalism. It isn't merely a glitch of the system, it is an essential feature of it(unless you add a completely different element to it) Capitalism doesn't merely tolerate natural inequality created by differences in merit or luck. It accumulates it and makes the problem unnatural. That should be acknowledged openly. Finally there should be a full-throated call for reform, not simply saying people who want to get rid of it should think twice. Only saying the one set of things and leaving out the other is a deliberate choice

@christopherbalint8474 Hour after hour? You had to search to find one example. And if it was a part of his position on capitalism, he would have talked about it even in the video being dissected here. He may grudgingly admit the need for some reform if pushed into a corner but never on his own, and never anything specific. Peterson fans are more vehement than pretty much any other fanbase that their beloved leader can do no wrong

@christopherbalint8474 I went and looked at a 3 minute 40 second video on his own channel and it is exactly what I've been saying. He says Marxism is wrong and that both rich and poor have got somewhat richer under capitalism. He doesn't even acknowledge that capitalism accentuates inequality let alone propose a fix. And his title "How to deal with incone inequality" seems to refer to how rich people and Conservatives should deal with the guilt of seeing income inequality all around them, NOT how to fix the problem itself. Classic Peterson

@christopherbalint8474 At this point you don't have an argument. But your desire to defend Peterson over this is baffling. Same thing with climate change. Peterson's argument is "Are you absolutely 100% sure?" No, nothing is 100% sure. That's not how science works. But many things are very high probability and we use that to shape policy. It's like someone being told by his plumber his pipes are corroded and will burst of they are not replaced and his reply is "Hey man how can you be so sure? Maybe a passing arsonist will light up the house before the pipes give out" His arguments are always like that. No good faith anywhere and a ceaseless vigil and mincing calculation not to upset his base. Yet his followers have a devotion that exceeds that of Trump supporters

@christopherbalint8474 And since you seem to know so much about Peterson, what is the specific fix he proposes? Explain it to me
1
@christopherbalint8474 This is a joke at this point. "They discuss it"? And no response to what specific solution Peterson has ever proposed. Because of course he doesn't even acknowledge the actual problem

@christopherbalint8474 You have only proven what I just said. The lack of any argument. You can't name anything he ever proposed because he doesn't propose it. His primary talking point is that the inequality generated by capitalism may guilt people into rejecting it and that would be scary. Should I hop across multiple videos to find some evidence he cares about anything else? Anyone who did care would repeat that point everywhere, in every context in which they mentioned growing inequality. It is very clear what his priorities are. And his acolytes care only about defending the master
