@Stompinwind 2x? From where exactly. Every place I look ranges from 5% to 20% more and mostly due to the lack of engine revs and sound, coupled with the instant torque means that people drive more aggressively on average with an EV. As there’s no external ques that you are pushing the car.

@brianp8796 the model 3 and model y both use two different battery chemistries, niether use cobalt. Hyundai no longer use cobalt and BYD use LFP batteries which also don’t have cobalt. The list goes on. A few have mentioned changing chemistries such as kia but havn’t followed through yet.

electric motors in EV's don't produce Ozone. Ozone is produced from ionizing air. which means sparking. This happens with cheap bush driven electric motors, not wireless induction motors used in EV's which dont have brushes or any physical contacts between the rotor and the stator. So no, they dont produce Ozone.

It is very true. But here’s the thing. Almost every EV producer has signed ethical deals with suppliers making sure no cobalt comes from the child mines. Companies like Tesla are also throwing large sums of money into cobalt free battery research. Meanwhile, the largest cobalt consumer on the plant by mass, and who doesn’t have any ethical contracts in place because they’ve never had the social pressure to do so, are fuel refineries

thats the thing about warranties. whilst you might be busy replace quite a number of batteries, the warranties are designed such that, those warranty claims only account for around 1% or less of the total units sold. Otherwise the company would be bleeding money and those cars wont be on the market in about a month or two.

Modern EV batteries no longer use cobalt. But moving on, almost all those minerals are completely recyclable from old batteries. You can recycle burnt oil. The grid is fine. That is a non issue people like to throw unrealistic hypotheticals at. Charging costs aren’t going to increase very far. Not nearly as far as fuel will increase over time of it keeps its current 20 year average trend. Charging logistics are a non issue for most people also. Todays EV’s have ranges equating to or exceeding comparative ICE vehicles. Meanwhile most people who own EV’s can charge from home instead of going to a fuel station. Waking up every morning to effectively a full tank of gas equivalent. Saving the average person 16-17 hours per year from driving to and from getting fuel.

First, They’re not that much heavier. The mode 3 for example is a direct competitor to the BMW M3. Same size, class, category, similar features and performance. Go look at the weight of the M3 and the model 3. Second, EV’s use regenerative braking, making the emissions from their brakes around 5 times or more less than that of an ICE vehicle.

not really, no they havnt. and statistically speaking, EV batteries, when compared to ICE vehicles are 11 times less likely to spontaneously combust and 5 times less likely to combust in an accident.

you dont buy a new door for a door ding. Nor do you buy a new door from over the counter parts for a car thats only been on the market for a few months. Thats just rediculous. As it is you can take your tesla to third party repair shops, many of which have approval and training by Tesla to work on their vehicles as to not damage the electronics. There is no resistance to rite to repair for tesla. They just dont have dealerships hanging on the side of repair shops. Additionally, unless you get yourself or someone gets your in an accident, there is nothing TO repair. No fuel pumps, spark plugs, oil filters, clutches, timing belts yada yada. But a battery and an electric motor with 2 moving parts.

Hybrids are very efficient but no where near as efficient as an EV. this is because of the generation of electricity. In a hybrid you use a petrol engine to turn a generator rather than the wheels which is far more efficient than trying to turn it through a transmission. However, hybrid engines aren't as efficient as large power plants which supply power for EV's. They also dont have the possibility of running from renewables. Both of those thing combined mean that Hybrids, whilst being very efficient, arent as efficient as a BEV.

A lot of people bring up the cobalt child mining. They don’t realise that it’s actually proving the opposite of what they think it does. Let’s count the points with the final point being the worst. 1.) Tesla and other EV manufacturers have signed deals with supplies mandating that they only be supplied certified ethical cobalt. So no child mining 2.) battery companies have sunk Huge money into developing cobalt free batteries, and Tesla’s next generation batteries they’ll be rolling out next year will be cobalt free. 3.) whilst battery production is the highest consumer of pure cobalt it isn’t the highest consumer of cobalt by mass. This includes cobalt based compounds and chemicals. The actual largest consumer of cobalt by mass, are fuel refineries who use cobalt based compounds to remove sulphur from the fuel you put in your car. They’ve never signed any ethical agreements as they’ve never received the social pressure to. So if you’re so against child mining, you should get an EV instead of continually topping up your car with fuel refined through child mined cobalt.

@pyros4333 ahh, no. The “transportation” doesn’t really matter unless you’re referring to mechanical translation. In which case, EV’s have very few mechanically translating parts, almost all of which are lightweight. The only heavy part of an EV is the battery which doesn’t mechanically translate. So no. That’s incorrect.

How about the study done of thousands of EV owners that found the average battery degradation after 200k miles was only 12%? What about the fact that EV producers are confidently enough in the batteries to offer 8 year warranty that includes degradation. Whilst the industry standard combustion engine warranty is only 5 years…

@admiralkrankandhismightyba158 that law is only in the US. Not globally. And no. California doesn’t require that for ZEV’s. They require it for PZEV’s. There is a difference. But globally such as places like Australia they are still 8 year warranties where there is no law requiring that. The lowest battery warranty is Kia’s with a 7 year warranty on its batteries. But the industry standard is 8.

I cant remember who did it but a Youtuber did a side by side test with the Mustang vs the Model Y driving all day. They had the non GT model with the 75kWh battery pack. What they found was the Ford used far more energy than the Model Y. Around 30% more per mile.

actually thats just cobalt. Most lithium in the world is produce by Australia which decidedly does not use forced, child labour without PPE. and even then, you'd be suprised, more cobalt is used by fuel refineries than by EV's to remove the sulphur from your fuels you burn every mile your drive. Also recent EV batteries hitting the roads this year dont use cobalt

It's been tested. when inside an EV, whilst driving, hard accelerating or supercharging, the EMR inside the car is actually less than background EMR. What it means is that you have around 100x more electromagnetic radiation coming from your phone, sitting in your pocket, next to your balls, than you do from sitting inside an EV. infact you writing that comment on what ever device you were using probably absorbed way more EMR than you would have gotten driving an EV for a lifetime. Also, side note, EMR doesnt really affect our physiology. Nothing we use day to day is ionising and our cells aren't magnetic so they wont induct any currents or harmful effects. its really just basic biology.

@EarlofBusterbrook Most people who drive electric cars, especially some of the performance Tesla cars, say its not like any other driving experience they've ever had. Utter silence, instant peak torque at 0 rpm - 1,200,000 rpm Meaning at any point around a corner, peak torque as fast as you can put you foot to the floor. no gear shift nothing. Another part that takes peoples breath away is the centre of mass of the cars, EV's with skateboard designs such as the Tesla range, have their centre of mass around the same height as the axels. So you get the cornering experience of having anti-sway bars mounted to the underside of the car without any of the dynamic suspension drawbacks which gives a really strange and unique feeling to cornering. People who drive get into these cars for the first time are so taken aback about the experience that there is even a term for it. Its call the Tesla giggle. being the reaction people typically have when driving these cars for the first time or even just sitting in one as someone else drives. A car that is "souless" or doesnt have an amazing driving experience wouldnt have a term for the reaction people have to said driving experience. Tom Pinky is right. Its all you've learned growing up. Just because it isnt what you think makes a good driving experience, doesnt mean it isnt one. Infact according to consumer reports, the Tesla model 3 got the highest score of any car for driving experience and driver satisfaction in 2021. So both the fact the term "Tesla Giggle" exists and the consumer reports ranking, both directly contradict your assertion.

in terms of emissions footprints its actually more productive to use all the ICE vehicles we have now before moving to new EV's. this is because of the emissions producing when you create an EV. if everyone was to surrender their ICE vehicle and get a brand new made EV. that would be horrendous by comparison. A steady transition to EV's by replacing all new purchased cars with new EV's and letting them filter down into the second and third hand market is the most emissions friendly option.

Hybrids have relatively small batteries, small batteries have small cycles, small cycles means you have to use far more cycles to cover the same distance. That means they degrade extremely quickly and need more regular replacement. Sitting a battery that needs to be thermally controlled near an engine bay and exhaust system, without any thermal management is also the reason hybrids are the most likely type of car to spontaneously catch fire.

@grahamebennett3875 There is no harmful radiation from EV's infact inside the EV even whilst charging or accelerating the EM emissions inside the cabin are lower than background. whilst outside is just... well background. Saying that being near 350 volts is damaging to your health is flat out ridiculous. most places in the world have 240 volts to the home wall outlets. As for recycling. Modern EV batteries are 95% recyclable using todays technology. Which is very contradictory to your statement that "they can never be recycled." a cursory google search for "are EV batteries recyclable" shows this.

@grahamebennett3875 Hydrogen is significantly worse than BEV's and are not greener or even as green. As for my experience. I only own an EV and have done so for a few years. Being a Mechanical Engineer I went through to steps to ensure it is safe before purchasing it. The chemicals used in processing the materials in a Lithium Battery arent as toxic as you think they are. They are also very tightly controlled. Just like all the very toxic chemicals used to process metals and plastics found both in ICE vehicles and EV's.

@grahamebennett3875 And what dont I know? that the EMR inside and outside the vehicle even under acceleration or rapid charging is less than or equal to background levels meaning, its not dangerous at all, or using current technology EV batteries are around 95% recyclable including all of the Lithium Nickel and Cobalt? or the EMR isn't inherently bad for your health, in fact, since your cells aren't magnetic, they aren't even affected by EMR except for those in ionizing wave lengths such as X-rays and Gamma rays non of which an EV produces at the AC frequencies produced. You really just dont understand the physics behind EMF's the biology behind cell interaction with EMF and you seem to chose to remain wilfully ignorant of the recyclability and processed involved with EV batteries.

I take mine on a road trips 5 hour road trip each way, I spent literally 0 extra time stopped than I did when I had my Subaru. Additionally very little in batteries is actually toxic but if you want to talk about environmental impacts lets discuss the impact of all the oil spill in the oceans that have occurred, what about the one where they lit the ocean on fire? that was neato. As it is, even with heavier emissions to produce over their lifetime they emit significantly less than a combustion car does. And its even more fuel efficient to charge your EV from a cheap portable diesel generator than it is to put that same fuel into even a modern conventional diesel car.

lying about your range is illegal. The issue is they are required to advertise their range according to EPA test results in America or the NEDC range test results in places like Australia. Both tests are standardised. Both cars would have done the exact same test under the exact same condition. But some of the cars mechanics are geared better towards different sections of the testing which might be weighted more or less to the end result, Hence why some outcomes vary more when compared to real world driving conditions compared to others. So Tesla isnt lying, they're just following the law.
